Specification of, Letters Patent.
Application filed June 18, 1914. Serial No. 845,909.
strong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Gear, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to foot gear and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a shoe for mill workers use having a rubber sole, sectional canvas body and metallic tip and which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel form of foot gear as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1, is a side elevation of the shoe in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2, is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the shoe at the forward portion thereof.
The style of foot gear forming the subject matter of this invention is what is termed a low quarter shoe, or may be termed a slipper and comprises a rubber sole l, a rubber heel 5, a canvas upper formed of two sections 6 and 7, and a metallic protector or shield, which may be termed a tip and which is indicated at 8. The sections 6 and 7 of the canvas upper are secured together centrally of the heel of the shoe, by a row of stitching, as indicated at 9, and the said sections 6 and 7 are also secured together at the front of the upper, by a row of stitching as indicated at 10 and which extends from the toe portion of the sole to the top edge of the upper at the instep. The lower edge of the canvas upper is provided throughout with a lateral extending flange. 11, which is seated upon the upper face of.
the sole 4, is flush with theedge of the sole throughout and is secured to the sole 4: by.
a row of stitching 12. The top edge of the canvas upper is reinforced by a strip of binding 13, the ends of the latter meeting centrally of the heel portion of the upper and the said binding 13 over-laps the top edge of the canvas upper or body and is secured thereto by a row of stitching 14. The protector, shield or toe tip 8, has a lower portion thereof provided with a lateral flange 14, which is mounted upon the flange 11 of the canvas upper or body and is fixedly secured in position by holdfast devices 15, which extend through the flanges 12 and 1 1 and engage the sole 1. The tip 8 extends around the toe of the shoe and over a part of the upper or body at each side thereof.

The section 6 as well as the section 7, of
the body portion or upper is provided below the binding 13 near the heel portion,
with a pair of eyelets 16, for receiving a flexible member to secure the shoe around:
the foot of the wearer if the shoe becomes loose.
What I claim is A shoe comprising an upper consisting of two sections formed of fabric, means for securing said sections together at the central part of the heel of the shoe, means for securing said sections together centrally of the instep and toe portions of the shoe, a sole and a heel, a lateral flange arranged on said upper and seated upon said sole, means 1 for securing said flange to the sole, a tip mounted uponthe forward portion of said I extending around the top edge of and being secured to said upper.
