. SLIPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Application filed December 29, 1913. Serial No. 809,163.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IsAAo GOLDBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Slippers, of which the following is a specification.
In the slippers now in use of this type, when the same are worn a short time, the Vamps of the same become creased and wrinkled and collapse, spoiling the appearance and shape of the slipper and making it diflicult for the insertion or the foot; and the object of this invention is to produce a slipper which will remain open and fit the foot comfortably and always retain its shape and appearance.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a slipper provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same, partly broken away; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the ar-. rows.
The slipper is provided with a usual sole 1 to which is secureda bottom sole 2 of carpet, leather or any other desired material. The vamp 3 at the front of the slipper is secured between the outer sole 1 and the inner sole 4, and around the edge of the vamp is secured a strip 5 by means of stitches 6, forming a pocket 7 for the receps vtion of a flat and flexible stifiener as a spring 8 of steel, whalebone or other desired Copies of this patent niay be obtained for material, the ends 8 of this stiffener being flattened and extending between the inner sole 4 and outer sole 1 and being provided with perforations 9 through which pass stitches 10 for securing the springs to the outer sole 1. I
The spring is of suficient flexibility to allow the vamp to be pressed down as desired, to aid in preparing the slippers for transportation, etc., but as soon as pressure on the vamp is released it immediately springs back into position, therebygiving the slipper its normal shape.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. An article of the class described, comprising a sole, a vamp secured to said sole, a pocket secured to the upper edge of said vamp, and a stiffening spring contained in said pocket, the ends of said spring being secured to said sole.
2. An article of the class described, comprising inner and outer soles and a vamp, a strip extending around the upper edge of the vamp, secured to the same and forming a pocket for. the receptionof a spring, and a spring in said pocket, the ends of said spring extending between the inner and outer soles and being secured to the same.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 27 day of Dece1nber,1913.
