Specification of Letters Batent.
PatentedijDec. 9, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIDNEY QUAYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hillsboro, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Remedial Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a remedial appliance, and its objectis to provide a device in the form of a bracelet or anklet adapted to be worn upon the person of the wearer and to hold a medicament for absorption and distribution throughout the body, whereby efficient treatment may be accorded, such device being so constructed as to facilitate its application and removal and the application and removal of the medicament carrying means, and adjustable to vary its diameter Within reasonable limits.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an electrotherapeutic bracelet-or anklet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section.
The device comprisesa bracelet, anklet or similar article composed of two approximately semi-circular tubular sections 1 and 2, each preferably having a semi-elliptical outer face 3 and a flattened inner face 4, the latter being adapted to lie in close contact with the body of the wearer when the device is applied for use.
The ends 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 of the-sections 1 and 2 are arranged in proximate relation, and the said ends 5 and 6 are preferably closed, while the ends 7 and v8 are open and adapted to be closed by screw caps 9. Each section contains a ody of cotton or other suitable absorbent material 10, saturated with the medicament to be employed, which passes out into contact with the person of the wearer for absorption and distribution througl'i perforations 11 in the inner flattened faces 4..
The ends 5 and 6 are coupled at their outer sides by interengaging members forming a hinged joint 12, adapting the anklet or bracelet to be opened and closed for application to and removal from the part of the body on which it is intended to be worn. A strip 13 is secured to the in? ner surface of one of the tubular sections adjacent to the hinged joint and overlaps the inner surface of the other. tubular section so as to cover the joint and form a smooth interior for the closed anklet or bracelet and at the same time limit the hinging movement of the tubular sections on each other.
It will be understood, of course, that the absorbent medicament carrying bodies are insertible and removable through the ends 7 and 8 of the tubular sections When the caps 9 are detached. Secured at one end to the inner face of one of the sections, as the section 2, adjacent to its end S, is a spring strip 14, which is adapted to bear upon and overlap the inner face of the end 7 of the other tubular section 1, and to close the joint on the inner side of the anklet between the said ends 7 and 8 of said sections, and to provide a smooth inner contact surface at such point, as well as to serve as a guiding and fastening member in connecting and disconnecting such ends of the sections. A fastening strip 15 is secured at one end to the outer face of the end 7 of the section 1 and overlaps the end 8 of the section 2, its said overlapping end being provided With a. longitudinal slot 16 engaging guide posts 17 on said section 2, which guide posts are provided with clamping nuts 18 or other suitable means for securing said strip in position, and thus fastening the device upon the person of the wearer. It will. thus be understood that the strip 15 forms a covering element to close the outer side of the joint between the ends 7 and 8, and cooperates with the strip 14 to form guides in bringing the free ends of the sections 1 and 2 together, which construction renders the anklet or bracelet adjustable to vary its diameter within certain limits, for a purpose readily understood.
I claim A remedial appliance comprising a hol low annular body formed of substantially counterpart sections, each of said sections being permanently closed at one end and provided with a removable plug for closing the opposite end thereof, the closed ends of said sections being hingedly connected and lttltl the inner faces of the respective sections having perforations formed therein, a covermg strip secured to the closed end of one of the sections to extend across the olnt and on the inner surface of overlap the eioseti end of the other section the hollow body, a covering and guide strip upon the inner face of the open end ofi one of the sections adapted to bridge the intervening joint and overlap the open end of the other eection,
a fastening strip secured at; one end to the outer surface of the closed "end of one section and adapted to overlap the outer sinface of the closed end of the other section, said strip having a longitudinal slot there in, threaded PI'QjGCiiODS upon the closed end memes of the latter named section adapted to project through said slot, nuts carried by said threaded projections to engage said slotted strip and adjnstehiy fasten the sections togetheiyand a ho y of absorbent medicament carrying material within each body section.
In testimony "whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY QUAYLE.
