PATENT 0 re i W s? JOSEPH J. MARTINKA, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
SURGIGAL APPLIANCE FOR MEN.
Application filed September 13, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. lvlnn'rrnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Surgical Appliances for Men, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present invention is the provision of a simple, inexpensive, easily applied and efficient device for preventing men and male children from wetting the bed.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the peculiar and advantageous device hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, of the device constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the device, showing the same as closed.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the device as it appears when open or in readiness to be applied to the male organ of generation.
' Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views of the drawings.
Among other elements my novel device comprises an elastic band 1 which may be a rubber strip Or a strip of any other ap proved material possessed of the necessary resiliency. The said band 1 is provided at one end with a female fastener member 2 and at its other end with a complementary male fastener member 8, and from this it follows that the device may be easily produced without the employment of expensive machinery.
In the practical use of my novel device,
the same is fastened with the band 1 under tension about the male organ of generation and so that the members of the fastener are Specification of Letters Patent.

held under considerable pressure against the portion of the organ immediately below the urethra at an intermediate point in the length of the latter. The urethra lies about one eighth of an inch above the lowermost surface of the organ, and consequently when the device is applied as stated the fastener will have the effect of compressing the wall of the urethra and forming a temporary stricture thereof with the result that urine will be prevented from passing through the urethra.
My novel device is designed especially for those afiiicted with bladder weakness or any other disease that causes them to wet the bed, and it will be apparent that the device may be readily applied and as readily removed by a man or a boy.
In practice the device will preferably be manufactured in two sizes for the use of men and children, respectively.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the primary purpose of my novel appliance is to awaken the wearer, and consequently no. injury will follow the use of the appliance.
Having described my invention. what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
As a new article of manufacture, a device to prevent men and male children from wetting the bed, comprising an elastic band adapted to be increased in length and there by put under tension and having free ends adapted to be arranged in lapped relation, an inwardly-projecting male snap-fastener member at the inner side of the outer end p ortion of the strip, and an inwardly-projecting female snap-fastener member extending through and inwardly from the inner lapped end portion of the strip and closed at its inner end and removably receiving the male fastener member.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
JOSEPH J. MARTIN KA.
