MABEL D. WEAVER, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 18, 1911.
Patented Dec. 19, 1911.
Serial No. 639,182.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MABEL D. WEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, California, have invented a new and useful Improved Comb for Artificial Hair, of which the following is a speci- Jication.
My object is to produce a device for combing switches and other forms of false or articial hair and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective showing my improved switch comb in position for use, the comb being clam ed to a board such as a table top or the li e. Fig. 2 is a sectional detail on the line 2-2 of Figs. 1 and 3. Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3*?) of Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the board l may be a table top or shelf or any device which is convenient for the purpose.
The comb back 2 is preferably a good piece of Wood and the comb teeth 3 are preferably shingle nails driven through the back 2. The heads of the nails may be covered by the veneer 4. The clamp 5 is a bar of iron bent to form the attaching plate 6 which is recessed into the comb back 2 and secured by screws 7, the arm 8 extending from the attaching plate 6 downwardly, the lug 9 extending from the lower end of the arm 8 parallel with the attaching plate 6 and the leaf spring 10 attached to the lug 9 and extending both ways in line with the comb back 2 so that when it is desired to mount the comb for use, the comb back 2 is placed on top of the table top 1 and the spring 10 passes under the table top 1, the arm 8 tting against the edge of the table top so that when the hair to be dressed is pulled Copies of this patent may be obtained for to the right in Figs. 1 and 3, it will pull the arm 8 against the edge of the table top and the tension of the spring 10 will hold the comb securely in position. When desired the comb may be readily removed from the table top.
The details of construction may be varied in many ways within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:`
1. A switch comb comprising a comb back, nails driven through the comb back and forming comb teeth, an attaching plate recessed into the comb back and secured thereto, an arm extending from the attaching plate downwardly, a lug extending from the lower end of the arm parallel with the attaching plate and a leaf spring attached to the lug and extending both ways in line with the comb back, so that the comb back may be placed on top of a table and the spring pass under the table.
2. A switch comb comprising a comb back, comb teeth extending upwardly from the comb back, an attaching plate secured to the comb back, an arm extending downwardly from the attaching plate, a lug extending from the lower end of the arm under the attaching plate and a leaf spring secured to the lug and extending upwardly so that when the switch comb is placed in position upon the edge of a table the spring will draw the comb back tightly against the upper face of the table and the arm will engage against the edge of the table.
