DOOR-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. SOHMUNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in door securers, and the main object of my invention is the provision of a device which can be instantly applied to the door and floor strip by any person without the use of screws or like fastenings and which will be thoroughly efficient in operation.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a device of this character which will dispense entirely with screws or other fastening means and which will not mar or disfigure the door or strip and which can be produced at a very low price, thus insuring a practical and desirable article of this character.

With these objects in view the invention consists of a spring securing member adapted to be screwed into the base strip and an engaging member adapted to be screwed into the door, said members each being made from a single piece of wire bentto the proper form.

The invention further consists of a door securer embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as shown, described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my door securer in position upon the door and floor strip, to show the manner of attaching and using the device. Fig. 2 represents a plan view of the door securer on an enlarged scale, the two members being shown in engaged position, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the two parts or members of the door securer. shown separated.

In the drawings: the letter A, designates a portion of a door and B, designates a portion of the base or floor strip in connection with which my door securer is used.

The door securer consists of two members or parts, the member which is attached to the base strip being made from a single piece of wire bent or formed to provide the Specification of Letters Patent.

securing screw portion C, the pair of double strand spring arms D, and the terminal loop or bend E, which passes around the screw portion of said member. From this construction it will be observed that the member which is screwed to the strip has the bend adjacent the screw portion forming an abutment which engages the strip and also provides the pair of double spring arms, which construction forms a highly desirable elastic securing means having great strength and spring action. The member which is secured to the lower side of the door is also formed from a single piece of wire bent to form the engaging loop F, the coil or bend G, and the terminal pointed screw portion H, which is screwed into the door with the bend or loop resting against said strip and retaining the loop member in position.

From the foregoing description and drawings the manner of applying and the operation of my door securer will be read ily understood, and it is evident that the members are screwed home into the material of the door and strip and when the door is thrown back the spring arms of the door member pass over and confine the loop member, as shown in Fig. 2, retaining the door in open position and preventing its accidental closing, but permitting the door to be closed when desired, as the spring arms will readily release the loop when the door is closed in a proper manner. The members each are screwed home into the door and base strip, and when in position the loops E and G, bear against the wood and retain the members in proper place.

The important advantage of my invention resides in the making of the two members each from a single piece of wire bent to the proper form, as this dispenses entirely with fastenings, enables the device to be sold in sets which can be applied by any person without the use of tools; and also presents a cheap, efficient and practical article.
