BACK-STRAP FOR SHOES.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAUNoY M. BEN- NINGHAUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Govans, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Straps for Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in back-straps for shoes, and has for its ob ject to provide means for holding the strap normally open and. in an upright position and to prevent the tearing apart of the strap at the upper end thereof.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing,Figure 1 is a side view of a shoe showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detailed side elevation, on an enlarged scale, of my improved strap. Fig. 3 is a rear View of Fig. 2. Fig. 4t is a detailed side view of the metal finger piece.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a loop made of suit- Specification of Letters Patent.

Secured to the inner surface of the loop 1 is a metal finger piece 2 having its upper end 3 curved to fit the finger and to keep the loop 1 normally open so that the finger may be readily inserted therein. The lower inner end of said metal piece 2 projects down to the top of the shoe to hold the strap in an upright position at all times. loop 1 in the present instance by the rivets 4:, but may be sewed or otherwise secured thereto.
