HARRY I-I. WEST, OF PLYMOUTH, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMB ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 20, 1909.
Application filed June 8, 1908. Serial No. 437,430.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY I-I. WVEsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inComb Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to combined hat holders and personal wear combs. i
The object of the invention is to provide a side comb which will tend to engage co-acting devices carried upon the bandeau of the hat whereby the use of hat pins and such devices is obviated.
IVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangementof parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear view showing in dotted lines a womans head with a hat thereon and the combs attached thereto; and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the comb.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the body or back of the comb which has depending therefrom the usual teeth for securing the comb in the hair. EX- tending up from lugs 2 formed at the top edge and at opposite ends of the comb are rigid hooks 3 and 4 each of which are provided with inwardly inclined entering pins 5 adapted to engage suitable eyes 6, secured in any suitable manner to the bandeau or other convenient portion of the hat.
In applying the device the combs are first removed from the hair and engaged with the eyes carried by the hat so as to secure them thereto, the hat is then placed upon the head in a correct position, at the same time inserting the combs in the hair.
It will of course be understood that the eyes may be secured to other parts of the hat than the bandeau and I therefore do not wish to be limited to the construction shown in the drawings which may be greatly varied without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described and ascertained the nature of my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
In a hat fastener, the combination with a hat bandeau, of eyelets secured thereto, a side comb provided at its top edge and at opposite ends with upwardly extending lugs, and fastening hooks connected with the lugs of the comb and provided with inwardly incliued terminals adapted to engage the eyelets whereby the comb may be detachably connected with the bandeau of the hat, the fastening hooks being located in a plane above the top edge of the comb.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARRY H. WEST. IVitnesses Tnos. WVns'r, J. FRANK LEE.
