Det fluidpermeable materialet beskrevet i denne oppfinnelsen er et lettvektsmateriale og har høy karakteristisk bruddstyrke og bøyningsstyrke. Det fluidpermeable materiale som beskrives tillater fluid til å strømme fritt gjennom strukturen uten innvirkning på den strukturelle integritet av komposittmaterialet, og frafiltrerer partikkelformede forurensninger fra fluidet når dette passerer gjennom strukturen.
