Abstract
Una mordaza de freno de hierro fundido con resistencia a la fatiga mejorada, y un proceso y equipo del proceso para pretensar una mordaza de freno de hierro fundido para proporcionar mejora en la resistencia a la fatiga, se proporciona. En el proceso, una carga se aplica a una mordaza de hierro fundido, donde la carga es suficientemente alta para localmente producir y plásticamente deformar el material de hierro fundido, pero no suficientemente alta para provocar que el material falle, tal como agrietado. Una vez que la carga es eliminada, los esfuerzos de compresión residuales en la mordaza de hierro fundido menores al punto medio del rango de tensión la región plásticamente deformada de la mordaza ve en el uso en servicio, y por lo tanto disminuye el pico de tensión visto en esta región, incrementando la resistencia a la fatiga. El proceso permite que una mordaza de freno de hierro fundido sea diseñada para usar menos material y así ajustarse a los limitados bordes de la rueda de la llanta, sin la necesidad de recurrir a materiales de alto costo o de otro tipo de estrategias de diseño alternativas.
