제1 층은 상류의 제1 구역 및 하류의 제2 구역을 가지며, 상류의 제1 구역에서 희토류 산화물의 분산물의 로딩량은 gin-3 단위로 하류의 제2 구역에서 희토류 산화물의 분산물의 로딩량의 0-30% 범위 내에 있어서, 상류의 제1 구역이 탄화수소 및 일산화탄소를 산화시키기 위한 하류의 제2 구역에 비해서 증가된 활성을 갖고, 그리고 하류의 제2 구역은 상류의 제1 구역에 비해 탈황 사건 동안 열을 생성하는 증가된 활성을 갖는, NOx 트랩. - 제 1 항에 있어서, 제1 층의 길이를 기준으로 제1 구역 및 제2 구역의 비율은 20:80 내지 80:20인 것을 특징으로 하는 NOx 트랩.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 벌크 세륨-함유 혼합 산화물은 지르코늄 및 선택적으로 하나 이상의 희토류 원소를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 NOx 트랩.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 제1 층에서 균일하게 부착된 성분들은 마그네슘 알루미네이트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 NOx 트랩.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 제1 층 위에 놓인 제2 층은 담지된 로듐 성분을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 NOx 트랩.

- 제 1 항에 있어서, 허니콤형 기판 모노리스는 플로-스루 허니콤형 기판 모노리스인 것을 특징으로 하는 NOx 트랩.
- 린번 내연 엔진용 배기 시스템으로서, 제 1 항에 따른 NOx 트랩을 포함하고, 상류의 제1 구역이 하류의 제2 구역에 앞서 엔진으로부터 배기 가스를 수용하도록 배향된 배기 시스템.
- 린번 내연 엔진과 제 8 항에 따른 배기 시스템을 포함하는 차량으로서, 상기 엔진은, 엔진이 사용중일 때 NOx 트랩에 의도치 않게 저장된 황을 방출할 목적으로 정상 희박 운행(람다 < 1) 모드에서 부화 운행 모드(람다 < 1, 람다 = 1 또는 람다 > 1)로 엔진 연료/공기 비를 간헐적으로 조정하도록 구성된 엔진 관리 수단을 포함하는 차량.
