Abstract

노매딕 변환기 또는 라우터 {Nomadic Translator or Router}
본 발명은 일반적으로 디지털 통신분야, 더욱 상세하게는 장소 및 장치를 명확하게 하기 위한 이용자의 디지털 통신용 단말기에 이용할 수 있는 휴대용 변환기 또는 라우터에 관한 것이다.
인터넷 또는 IP주소와 같은 이용자 디지털 통신 주소는 전통적으로 이용자의 상업용 전화선과 같은 고정된 물리적 위치와 관련되어 있다. 그러나, 랩탑 컴퓨터와 같은 휴대용 통신 장치가 점점 인기를 끌고 있고, 이용자가 호텔이나 비행기와 같은 떨어진 위치에서 인터넷에 접근하는 것이 일반화되고 있다.
디지털 통신망은 가입된 물리적 위치(physical location)에서 통신 주소로 제출된 통신의 전송경로를 지정하도록 설치된다. 따라서, 만약 랩탑(laptop) 컴퓨터가 원격 위치에서 접속된다면, 컴퓨터에서 컴퓨터로의 통신은 이용자의 통신 주소에 가입되지 않을 것이다.
컴퓨터(호스트)가 네트워크(예를 들면, 인터넷)를 통하여 통신하기 위하여, 소프트웨어 프로토콜(protocol; 예를 들면 전송 조정 프로토콜/인터넷 프로토콜 (TCP/IP))은 호스트에서 로드되어야 한다. 호스트 컴퓨터는 패킷(packet)을 받고 행선(destination) 호스트에 되돌아온 패킷을 보내는 네트워크(라우터)에 있는 장치에 정보(예를 들면, 데이터 패킷)를 보낸다.
행선 호스트는 비슷한 과정을 이용하여 되돌아온 응답의 전송경로를 지정할 것이다. 각 호스트 컴퓨터 및 라우터는 데이터 패킷을 누구에게 보내는 것인지를 알도록 구성되어야 한다. 라우터는 만약 호스트 컴퓨터가 특별히 라우터에 패킷을 전송한다면 패킷을 받을 것이다. 만약 호스트가 잘못 구성된다면, 호스트 컴퓨터 및 라우터는 서로 통신할 수 없을 것이다.
이동 컴퓨터의 발전, 그리고 네트워크 및 인터넷 자원을 얻기 위하여 네트워크로 컴퓨터를 접속하면서, 이동 컴퓨터는 각 네트워크로 접속할 수 있도록 구성되어야 한다. 전통적으로 이러한 새로운 구성은 (1) 컴퓨터의 소프트웨어를 수동으로 조작하거나(일반적으로 컴퓨터를 새로운 구성에서 로드(load)하기 위하여 재시작하는 원인이 된다) (2) 컴퓨터가 접속되는 네트워크에 있는 장치로부터 구성 정보를 얻기 위하여 반드시 이용되어야 하는 프로토콜을 새로 설치하여 이루어질 수 있다. 새로운 서비스(프로토콜)가 호스트 컴퓨터에서 기능하도록 추가되어 만들어지면, 새로운 기능이 추가된 형태를 기대하기 위하여, 이러한 새로운 프로토콜은 반드시 호스트 컴퓨터 또는 라우터에서 업데이트 되어야 한다.
도 1은 표준 인터페이스를 통한 호스트 계산 장치와 다양한 통신 장치 사이의 본 노매딕 라우터의 실시를 나타낸 도표이다.

본 발명에 따른 휴대용 "노매딕" 라우터 또는 변환기는 랩탑 컴퓨터 또는 지역 홈 네트워크에 접속되도록 구성된 다른 휴대용 단말기가 어떤 지역에서도 인터넷 또는 다른 디지털 데이터 통신 시스템에 접속할 수 있도록 한다.
상기 노매딕 라우터는 단말기에서 홈 네트워크로 표현되고, 통신 시스템에서 단말기로 표현되는 프로세서를 포함한다. 상기 단말기는 영구 주소를 갖고, 노매딕 라우터는 라우터 주소를 갖고, 단말기는 소스(source) 주소로서 영구 주소를 포함하는 시스템에 송신 데이터를 전송한다. 프로세서는 소스 주소로서 영구 주소를 라우터 주소로 바꿈으로써 송신 데이터를 변환시킨다. 단말기는 행선(destination) 주소로서 라우터 주소를 포함하는 시스템으로부터 수신 데이터를 받고, 프로세서는 행선 주소로서 라우터 주소를 영구 주소로 바꿈으로서 수신 데이터를 변환시킨다.
단말기는 지역 네트워크의 한 지점에 직접 연결되고, 노매딕 라우터는 상기 네트워크의 또 다른 지점에 연결된다. 노매딕 라우터는 노매딕 이메일, 네트워크 파일 동기장치, 데이터 베이스 동기장치, 즉석 네트워크, 노매딕 인터넷, 이동 가상 사설 네트워크 및 트레이드 쇼(trade show) 라우터를 포함하는 많은 응용에 도구로 제공될 수 있고, 또한, 고정된 노매딕 라우터로도 이용될 수 있다.
노매딕 라우터는 소프트웨어 및/또는 하드웨어로 실시될 수 있다. 노매딕 라우터는 랩탑 컴퓨터와 같은 디지털 통신 단말기를 위한 위치 및 장치 통과를 확실하게 한다. 단말기는 다양한 통신 인터페이스 장치를 제공할 수 있는 네트워크 및 위치의 하나에 접속될 수 있다.
노매딕 라우터는 단말기가 단말기의 물리적 위치의 고려 없이 통신 주소로부터 시작되는 통신을 수행하는 것과 같이, 자동적으로 인터넷 주소와 같은 이용자를 위한 단일한 통신 주소에서 활동위치 주소로 변경한다.
노매딕 라우터는 또한 자동적으로 상기 인터페이스 장치의 선택된 하나를 이용하기 위한 단말기를 구성하고, 만약 처음 장치가 작동하지 않거나 이용할 수 없게 될 경우 다른 장치로 변경하게 한다.

본 발명에 따른 위치 및 장치 투과가 되는 데이터 통신 단말기를 이용하기 위한 휴대용 라우터는 이용자의 디지털 통신 주소를 저장하기 위한 제 1 모듈; 단말기가 접속되는 데이터 통신 네트워크 위치를 발견하기 위한 제 2 모듈; 단말기에 접속되는 통신 장치를 발견하기 위한 제 3 모듈; 제 2 모듈의 위치의 통신 주소가 제 1 모듈의 이용자의 통신 주소로 자동으로 변경되는 것과 같이, 단말기와 네트워크 사이의 데이터 통신을 설치하기 위한 제 4 모듈; 및 제 4 모듈에 의하여 이용하기 위하여 제 3 모듈에 의하여 발견된 통신 장치를 자동적으로 선택하기 위한 제 5 모듈을 포함한다.
본 노매딕 라우터는 호스트 컴퓨터와 라우터 사이에 보내지는 데이터 패킷을 조작하는 자급식(self-contained) 장치에서 구현된 단일 과정을 이용한다. 상기 과정은 호스트 컴퓨터와 노매딕 라우터 사이에 전송되는 패킷의 내용의 빠르고 활동적인 광범위한 변환을 제공한다. 상기 변환은 심지어 호스트 컴퓨터가 노매딕 라우터와 서로 통신할 수 있도록 구성되어 있지 않더라도 호스트 컴퓨터가 노매딕 라우터와 서로 통신하는 것을 허용한다.

기본 노매딕 라우터
잘 정의된 표준 인터페이스
도 1은 호스트 장치 또는 컴퓨터(12) 및 통신 장치(14) 사이에 접속되어서 본 발명을 구현한 노매딕 변환기 또는 라우터(10)를 나타낸다. 호스트 장치(12)는 충분히 휴대 가능한 그리고 휴대 가능해서 한 위치에서 다른 위치로 이동될 수 있는 랩탑 컴퓨터 또는 기타 고정용 또는 이동용 디지털 제어 통신 단말기이다. 예를 들어, 랩탑 컴퓨터는 비행기, 고객의 사무실, 가정과 같은 어떠한 편리한 장소에서도 이용될 수 있다.

위치에 기초하지 않은 영구 주소
오늘날 우리는 자신의 통신도구(자기 컴퓨터의 IP 주소 또는 팩스 기계의 전화 번호 등)의 견지에서 통신을 한다. 통신환경 및 장치의 변경 및 이동을 지지하기 위하여 타인과 통신할 장소가 필요하고 그들이 이용할 장소를 한정할 필요는 없다. 무선, 잠재적 ad-hoc, 통신 네트워크, 일반 가상 네트워크에서 이동성과 적합성을 지지하기 위하여 다양한 계산호스트 및 통신 장치를 지지할 지적 장치 또는 에이전트가 제공하여야 한다.
본 노매딕 라우터(10)는 오늘날 인터넷에 이용되는 IP 주소에 기초한 위치 및 장치(12)가 호스트 CPU에 하우스된 영구이용자 기본주소(based address) 사이에 사상(mapping)을 제공한다. 이것이 도 2에 "IP 사상"으로 표시되어 있다. 사상은 호스트 CPU 또는 이용자에 의한 사상의 지지 또는 지식이 없어도 행하여진다.
인터넷 RFC 2002 이동 IP 프로토콜은 영구 및 순간 IP 주소간의 사상을 구체화한다. 노매딕 라우터의 유일한 측면은 이동 IP 프로토콜이 반드시 호스트 CPU를 실행하거나 지지 받지 않아도 되고, 오히려 노매딕 라우터의 내부에 존재한다. IP번호와 같은 호스트 구성정보는 도 4에 나타나듯이 발견되거나 결정되고, 도 2에서 "호스트 정보"로 표현되듯이 노매딕 라우터(10)에 저장된다. 그 구성과정은 도 3에 개략적으로 나타난다.
광 오프로드 과정(optical off-load processing)
도 2에 나타나듯이 노매딕 라우터는 호스트 CPU를 호스트 장치(12)로부터 물리적으로 분산시키기 위한 오프로드 통신과정을 제공할 수 있다. 이는 네트워크 프로토콜을 직접 지지할 필요가 없는 네트워크를 이용하기 위하여 호스트 단말기 또는 장치(12)를 허용한다. 현재 네트워크 기판을 적합시키기 위하여 대응되는 노매딕 라우터를 가짐으로서 호스트 CPU는 경로지정, 적합화, 패킷화등 알고리즘 또는 패킷과정을 가지지 않고 높은 형성도를 유지할 수 있다.
노매딕 라우터는 또한 호스트 장치(12)가 이용가능하든 부착되었든 간에 독립의 데이터를 대기 행렬, 수신 및 송신할 수 있다. 노매딕 라우터(10)에 지어진 CPU(11)는 모드 필요한 계산 경로를 제공하고, 호스트 CPU가 독립인 충분히 기능적인 네트워크가 된다. 이는 노매딕 라우터는 호스트 장치(12)와 같이 광범위한 I/O 장치를 갖고 있지 않기 때문에 이용자를 위한 배터리를 증가시키는 것을 허용한다.

예를 들어, 파워북(Powerbook)이 네트워크에 접속되고 수면에 들고, 다른 네트워크에서 충전될 때 발생한다. 모든 네트워크 서비스는 깨어나 다시 시작되고 네트워크 응용은 재시작되지 않는다면 혼란될 것이다. 노매딕 라우터는 모빌(Mobile) IP에 의하여 제공된 것과 유사한 일시적이면서도 영원한 네트워크 및 노드부재를 제공함으로서 이러한 문제를 해결한다. 그러나, 노매딕 라우터는 또한 다른 프로토콜 스택(예를 들면 애플토크)과 함께 작업한다.
모빌 IP는 네트워크 준위에서 위치 독립을 제공하지만, 링크 준위에서는 그렇지 않다. 장치 종(specific)인 모든 링크 준위 변수는 도 5에 나타나듯이 새로운 통신 장치(네트워크 인터페이스)가 노매딕 라우터에 부착될 때, 자동으로 구성된다. 노매딕 라우터는 적응성 있는 장치 독립을 지지함으로서 매뉴얼 구성이 필요성을 완전히 제거한다.
복합기판(장치 독립)

하드웨어 명세
노매딕 라우터는 도 6에서 보듯이 특별한 하드웨어가 없이, 또는, 도 2에서 보듯이 주 호스트로부터 분리된 CPU 없이 또는 하드웨어 장치의 형성의 묶음이 없이도 소프트웨어에서 완전하게 실행될 수 있다. 또한, 노매딕 라우터는 라우터의 변환 과정의 작용을 실행하는 소프트웨어 프로그램을 저장하는 디지털 저장 매체로 제공될 수 있다. 디지털 저장 매체의 예는 광 매체(CD-롬 등), 자기 매체(플로피 디스크 등), 비 휘발성 또는 ROM(read only memory) 등 또는 이들의 조합이 있다. 프로그램은 이동 단말기(12) 또는 네트워크에서 접속되는 다른 컴퓨터 또는 라우터에서 선택적으로 로드(load)되고 실행(run)된다.
노매딕 라우터의 한 잠재적인 도구가 내장형(embedded) PC 기술이다. 예를 들어, 조야한 PC/104 표준 모듈은 3.775"에서 3.550", 단위 모듈당 0.6" 및 단위 모듈 당 거의 7dz의 형식-요소를 갖는다. 최소 성분 계수 및 전력 소비에 의한 자기-스택 버스의 PC/104 모듈의 이용은 백플레인 또는 카드 케이지의 필요성을 제거한다.

장치 소자
자급식(self-contained) 장치에서 패킷 변환을 수행하기 위하여, 노매딕 라우터 에서 패킷에 행하여지는 과정은 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 영향을 발지 않고 오프로드 되지도 않는다. 네트워크 구성 및 이용 가능한 서비스를 일치시키기 위한 모든 패킷의 특정한 변환은 노매딕 라우터에서 내부적으로 이루어진다. 노매딕 라우터는 호스트 컴퓨터가 이용 가능하든 또는 심지어 부착되어 있든지 여부에 관계없이 데이터를 행렬을 지을 수 있고, 전송할 수 있고, 수신할 수 있다. 노매딕 라우터에 주어진 알고리즘 및 마이크로 조정기는 호스트 컴퓨터에 독립한 충분한 기능 네트워크 보조처리기가 있어서 모든 필요한 계산경로를 지정한다.

노매딕 라우터는 여러가지 다른 경로에서 다양한 소자로 구성될 수 있다. 도 10에서, 노매딕 라우터는 램(ramdomn access memory)에서 패킷 완충기에 저장된 패킷을 변환하기 위하여 프로세서 또는 마이크로 조정기(11)를 포함한다. 변환 기능은 RTOS(실시간 운영체제)에서 비 휘발성 메모리(13)에 저장되고, 수행에 필요한 변환 형태에 따른 구성 정보가 저장된다.
노매딕 라우터의 시동(부트)에서, RTOS 및 변환 알고리즘이 그들이 시행되는 RAM에서 비 휘발성 메모리로부터 로드(load)된다. 호스트 컴퓨터가 접속되는 호스트 인터페이스는 없거나 하나 또는 그 이상일 수 있다. 또한 하나 이상의 네트워크 인터페이스가 존재한다. 만약, 호스트 인터페이스가 필요없다면, 노매딕 라우터는 네트워크 인터페이스로부터 호스트 컴퓨터를 경유하여 패킷을 얻는다.

호스트 학습
노매딕 라우터(10)는 호스트 컴퓨터(12)로부터 수신한 패킷(packet)의 내용을 조사함으로써 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 어떻게 구성되는지에 대해서 학습할 수 있다. 라우터(26)에 직접적으로 패킷을 송신하는 호스트 컴퓨터 또는 초기에 작동되도록 구성된 또 다른 네트워크 장치보다는 오히려, 노매딕 라우터(10)로 호스트 컴퓨터(12)로부터 모든 송신 패킷 자체로 입출력 지정이 가능하다. 입출력 지정은 하기에서 후술할 여러 가지 방법으로 완성될 수 있다.
1. 프록시 ARP 포켓 인터셉트(intercept) 및 호스트 재구성
호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 라우터(26) 또는 또 다른 네트워크 장치에 보낼 필요가 있는 IP 패킷을 가지고 있더라도, 링크층 매체 접근 제어(Media Access Control: MAC) 주소를 얻는 주소 도출 규약(Address Resolution Protocol: ARP)을 사용한다. 도 8에 도시된 바와 같이, 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 동보 통신하고 ARP가 행선 노드(destination node)의 MAC 어드레스를 요구할 때, 노매딕 라우터(10)는 이 ARP 요구 동보 통신을 수신하고, 그것의 MAC 주소를 응답한다(행선 노드의 주소가 아님).

노매딕 라우터(10)는 라우터 또는 동일한 프로세스를 사용하는 또 다른 네트워크 장치로부터 리턴 패킷을 구성하고 인터셉트할 것이다.
2. 혼잡한 모드 패킷 인터셉션
MAC 주소가 짧은 시간의 주기 동안에 호스트 컴퓨터(12)에서 캐시되므로, 타임아웃 주기가 발생하거나 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 재작동되는 등으로 캐시가 멈추지 않는다면, MAC 주소를 다시 얻기 위해서 호스트 컴퓨터(12)는 새로운 ARP 요구를 송신하지 않을 것이다.
종래의 네트워크 장치가 자신 스스로 매치하지 않는 MAC 주소로 포켓을 수신하거나 청취할 때, 포켓을 취소하거나 드롭시킬 것이다. 한 네트워크 환경으로부터 휴대용 컴퓨터를 사용하여 다른 네트워크 환경으로 빠르게 작동하는 것이 가능하므로, 노매딕 라우터(10)는 MAC 주소가 노매딕 라우터의 홈 게이트웨이 또는 노매딕 라우터 장치의 주소이더라도 패킷을 인터셉트하는 것이 가능해야 한다.

호스트 컴퓨터는 수동으로 구성되기보다는 오히려 구성 정보를 얻기 위해서 DHCP 서비스를 이용할 수 있다. DHCP 서비스를 이용하는 호스트 컴퓨터는 DHCP 서버가 일반적으로 첨부되는 네트워크 구분(segment)에 인스톨되는 것을 필요로 한다. 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 이 서비스를 이용하고 DHCP를 사용하여 구성 정보를 요구한다면, 노매딕 라우터(10)는 이들 요구를 인터셉트(intercept)하고, 사용하는 호스트 컴퓨터(12)의 구성 정보에 응답할 것이다.
네트워크 학습
노매딕 라우터는 하기에서 기술할 여러 가지 각기 다른 방법을 사용하여 일반적으로 첨부되는 네트워크 환경에 대해서 학습할 수 있다.
1. 동적 호스트 구성 규약(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol; DHCP)
각기 다른 네트워크 접속이 노매딕 라우터에 접속되더라도, 일반적인 네트워크를 위한 구성 정보를 얻도록 DHCP 요구를 동보 통신할 것이다. 네트워크에서 DHCP 서비스를 활용하지 않으면, 네트워크 구성에 대해서 학습하는 또 다른 방법을 작동할 것이다.
2. 라우터 정보 패킷
네트워크 상의 라우터는 경로표를 건설하고 라우터가 네트워크에서 변화하기에 적합하도록 사용되는 라우터 정보 패킷을 주기적으로 동보 통신할 것이다. 노매딕 라우터(10)는 이들 정보 패킷을 네트워크 상에서 청취할 것이다. 하나를 수신할 때, 이 패킷들로부터 구성 정보가 발췌될 것이다.
3. 수동(passive) 청취
노매딕 라우터의 네트워크 접속을 모든 패킷을 수신하는 혼잡한 모드에 배치함으로써, 네트워크가 어떻게 구성되었는지를 알아내기 위해서 네트워크 상에서 모든 패킷을 시험할 수 있다. 근거리 통신망에서 사용하는 IP 주소를 결정할 수 있고, 이 기계는 다음의 호프(hop) 주소가 아닌 마지막 행선 주소에 의해 지정된다.

4. 수동(manual) 구성

패킷 변환
노매딕 라우터의 패킷 변환 기능은 위치 사이의 사상을 제공하고, 부착되어 있는 것이 확실한 호스트 컴퓨터(12)에 의하여 이용되고, 네트워크(14)에 의하여 이용되는 구성을 보조하는 작용을 한다. 호스트 컴퓨터(12)로부터 네트워크(14)로 교통량 송신을 위하여, 네트워크(14)로 보내진 모든 패킷이 호스트 컴퓨터(12) 보다는 노매딕 라우터(10)로 직접 귀환하기 때문에, 변환 기능은 소스 주소, 검사합 (checksum) 및 응용 특정 변수와 같은 패킷의 내용을 변화시킨다.
네트워크(14)로부터 노매딕 라우터에 도착하는 수신 교통량은 호스트 컴퓨터(12)를 통하여 존재하고, 변환 기능을 통하여 패스됨으로서, 호스트 컴퓨터(12)는 응답이 직접 보내졌다고 판단한다. 호스트 컴퓨터(12)는 노매딕 라우터(10)에 의하여 형성되는 모든 변환을 완전히 인식하지 못한다.
변환기능은 도 9a 및 9b에서 보듯이 기능한다. 상기 도표에서, OSI/ISO 모델 응용, 전송, 네트워크, 링크 및 물리층에서 수행되는 작용은 층 지정에 반대되는 행(row)으로서 표현된다. 호스트 컴퓨터(12), 노매딕 라우터(10) 및 네트워크(14)에 의하여 수행된는 작용은 장치 지정 아래의 열(column)표현된다.
호스트 컴퓨터(12)는 1 단계에서 보듯이 표준 프로토콜 스택을 이용한 호스트 컴퓨터(12)에 저장된 현재 구성을 이용한 네트워크 패킷을 이용할 것이다. 상기 구성 정보는 수동으로 호스트 컴퓨터(12)에서 구성되거나 DHCP를 이용하여 얻어질 것이다.
2 단계에서 보듯이, 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 링크 레벨 지정 주소에 제출되면, 상기 주소는 자동적으로 앞서 언급된 프록시 ARP 패킷 변형 경로를 이용하여 얻어지고, 이는 노매딕 라우터(10)의 링크 레벨 주소를 이용하여, 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 표준 라우터 또는 홈 게이트웨이 장치의 네트워크 주소에 있는 패킷에 보내지는 원인이 된다.
3 단계에서, 패킷은 호스트 컴퓨터(12) 및 노매딕 라우터(10) 사이에 표준 물리적 접속을 통하여 전송된다. 4 단계에서 보듯이, 노매딕 라우터(10)는 호스트 컴퓨터의 MAC주소를 재구성 한 프록시 ARP기능때문에 링크 레벨에서 패킷을 수신하거나, 또는 노매딕 라우터(10)는 심지어 다른 MAC주소를 수신하더라도 패킷을 수신하는 원인이 되는 복합 모드에서 링크 레벨을 가질 것이다.

일단, 네트워크 층 변환이 완성되면, 상기 패킷은 상기 응용 및 전송층에서 변환될 수 있다. 6 단계에서 보듯이, 전송층은 소스 주소 및 행선 주소를 포함하는 의사(pseudo) 전송층 헤더 및 상기 응용층으로부터 상기 내용을 필요로 하기 때문에 상기 응용층은 다음에 변환된다.
응용층 변환에서, FTP와 같은 호스트 컴퓨터의 소스 주소를 설명하는 소정의 주소는 노매딕 라우터의 주소로 변환된다. 지역 프록시 서버와 같은 소정의 응용층 행선 주소는 현재 네트워크에서 실행하는 서버의 주소와 정합하도록 변환된다.
일단, 응용층이 완성된면, 도 7에서 보듯이, 전송층은 검사합 및 소정의 포트 수 조작을 완성할 수 있다. 만약 하나 이상의 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 노매딕 라우터(10)에 부착된다면, 상기 포트 수는 조작될 수 있다. 호스트 컴퓨터(12)가 특정의 포트를 이용한 요구를 보내면, 각 호스트 컴퓨터(12)는 노매딕 라우터에 이용 가능한 수신 포트를 정합시키기 위하여 변환된다.

상기 노매딕 라우터는 인터넷에 사용되는 IP 주소에 기초한 위치와 호스트 CPU에 수용되는 주소에 기초한 영구 사용자 사이의 사상(mapping)을 제공한다. 이러한 매칭은 호스트 CPU 또는 사용자에 의한 사상과 같은 지원 또는 인식 없이 실행된다. 인터넷 RFC 2002 이동 IP 프로토콜은 영구 IP 주소와 일시적인 IP 주소 사이의 사상을 상술한다. 상기 노매딕 라우터의 유일한 양상은, 이동 IP 프로토콜이 호스트 CPU에서 운용 또는 호스트 CPU에 의한 지원이 필요 없고, 오히려 상기 노매딕 라우터에 내장된다는 것이다.
상기 노매딕 라우터에서 전송 기능의 일부로 이러한 프로토콜을 수행함으로써, 상기 노매딕 라우터는 상기 호스트 컴퓨터로부터의 패킷(packets)을 캡슐화할 수 있고, 그것을 원래의(가정) 네트워크에 전송되는(비-캡슐화)상기 고정 노매딕 라우터로 다시 전송할 수 있다. 상기 가정 네트워크로부터 응답은 상기 고정 노매딕 라우터에 의해 수신되고, 캡슐화되며 다시 상기 노매딕 라우터로 전송된다. 패킷이 상기 노매딕 라우터와 고정 노매딕 라우터 사이에 전송되는 경우, 상기 패킷 은 코드화되고 인터넷 터널링 프로토콜로 사용되도록 전송된다.
상기 노매딕 라우터가 위치에 독립적이고, 상기 고정 노매딕 라우터가 모든 패킷을 대응 호스트로부터 상기 노매딕 라우터를 통하여 호스트 컴퓨터로 전송되기 때문에, 위치의 어떠한 변화, 네트워크 링크의 실패, 또는 이동 호스트 컴퓨터의 접착점에 의해 어떤 개방 세션(open session)의 손실이 발생하지 않는다. 상기 고정 노매딕 라우터가 이동 호스트 컴퓨터인 것처럼 되고, 상기 노매딕 라우터가 상기 가정 네트워크인 것처럼 되기 때문에, 이러한 세션 손실 방지는 가능하다. 상기 고정 노매딕 라우터 및 노매딕 라우터 변환 기능은 운송 및 응용 세션으로부터의 링크 및 네트워크 손실을 방지한다.
다양한 변형예는, 당해 기술자가 본 발명의 개시를 받은 후에 본 발명을 벗어나지 않는 범위에서 실시할 수 있다.
본 발명은 컴퓨터 및 다른 장치를 사용하는 전자 데이터 통신 분야에 넓리 응용될 수 있다.

Claims (54)

  1. 홈 장치에 접속되도록 구성된 단말기를 통신 시스템에 접속하기 위한 변환기에 있어서, 상기 변환기는:
    상기 단말기 및 상기 시스템에 접속하기 위한 인터페이스; 및
    상기 인터페이스에 접속되고, 상기 단말기에서 상기 홈 장치로 표현되고 상기 시스템에서 상기 단말기로 표현되도록 구성된 프로세서를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 영구 주소를 갖고;
    상기 변환기는 변환기 주소를 갖고;
    상기 단말기는 소스 주소로서 영구 주소를 포함하는 시스템에 송신 데이터를 전송하고,
    상기 프로세서는 소스 주소로서 영구 주소를 변환기 주소로 바꿈으로서 송신 데이터를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  3. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 영구 주소는 IP(인터넷 프로토콜) 주소인 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  4. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 변환기 주소는 IP(인터넷 프로토콜) 주소인 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  5. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 단말기에 의하여 전송된 데이터로부터 상기 영구 주소를 결정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  6. 제 5항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 상기 영구 주소를 포함하는 ARP(주소도출규약) 패킷을 상기 변환기로 전송하고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 상기 ARP 패킷으로부터 영구 주소를 결정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  7. 제 5항에 있어서,
    상기 프로세서는 모든 송신 데이터를 변환하는 혼합된 모드에서 작동하도록 구성되고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 상기 송신 데이터로부터 영구 주소를 결정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  8. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 변환기는 변환기 하드웨어 주소를 갖고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 상기 단말기가 상기 변환기 하드웨어 주소에 송신 데이터를 전송하기에 적합하도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  9. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 영구 주소를 갖고,
    상기 변환기는 변환기 주소를 갖고,
    상기 변환기는 행선 주소로서 상기 단말기 주소를 포함하는 시스템으로부터 수신 데이터를 받고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 행선 주소로서 상기 변환기 주소를 상기 영구 주소로 바꿈으로서 상기 수신 데이터를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  10. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 영구 주소를 갖고,
    상기 변환기는 변환기 주소를 갖고,
    상기 변환기는 소스 주소로서 상기 영구 주소를 포함하는 시스템에 송신 데이터를 전송하고,
    상기 프로세서는 소스 주소로서 상기 영구 주소를 상기 변환기 주소로 바꿈으로서 상기 송신 데이터를 변환하고,
    상기 변환기는 행선 주소로서 상기 변환기 주소를 포함하는 시스템으로부터 수신 데이터를 받고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 행선 주소로서 상기 변환기 주소를 상기 영구 주소로 바꿈으로서 상기 수신 데이터를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  11. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 시스템에서 상기 프로세서 자신을 자동으로 구성하도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  12. 제 11항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 DHCP(동적 호스트 구성 프로토콜)를 이용한 시스템에 상기 프로세서 자신을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  13. 제 11항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 모든 수신 데이터를 수용하고, 상기 수신 데이터로부터 시스템 정보를 추출하는 혼합 모드에서 작동함으로써 상기 시스템에 상기 프로세서 자신을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  14. 제 11항에 있어서,
    상기 시스템은 시스템 정보를 포함하는 정보 패킷을 동보통신하는 적어도 하나의 변환기를 포함하고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 상기 정보 패킷으로부터 상기 시스템 정보를 수신하고 추출하여 상기 시스템에 상기 프로세서 자신을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  15. 제 11항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 수동으로 상기 프로세서 안에 들어온 시스템 정보를 갖도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  16. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 변환기는 상기 홈 장치에 접속되고 홈 에이전트로 작용하도록 구성된 다른 변환기와 통신하도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  17. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 인터페이스 및 프로세서를 결합하는 하드웨어 장치를 포함하고, 상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 단말기 및 시스템에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  18. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 단말기에 부착되어 있음을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  19. 제 17항에 있어서,
    상기 시스템은 부품을 포함하고, 그리고
    상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 부품에 부착되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  20. 제 17항에 있어서,
    상기 시스템은 네트워크를 포함하고, 그리고
    상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 네트워크 장치의 한 지점에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.

  22. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 프로세서를 실시하는 소프트웨어가 저장된 메모리를 포함하는 카드, 및 상기 소프트웨어를 실행하는 계산 장치를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  23. 제 22항에 있어서, 상기 카드는 상기 단말기 안에 접속되도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  24. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 하드웨어 장치는 상기 프로세서를 실시하는 소프트웨어가 저장된 메모리를 포함하는 집적 회로, 및 상기 소프트웨어를 실행하는 계산 장치를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  25. 제 24항에 있어서, 상기 집적 회로는 상기 단말기에 접속되도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  26. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 단말기에 저장되고 실행되는 소프트웨어를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  27. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 시스템의 부품에서 저장되고 실행되는 소프트웨어를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  28. 제 27항에 있어서, 상기 시스템은 상기 부품이 접속되는 네트워크를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  29. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 인터페이스는 상기 단말기와 접속하기 위한 단말기 인터페이스 및 상기 시스템에 접속하기 위한 시스템 인터페이스를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  30. 제 29항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 상기 단말기 인터페이스와 상기 시스템 인터페이스 사이에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  31. 제 29항에 있어서,
    상기 시스템 인터페이스는 상기 시스템에 접속되고,
    상기 단말기 인터페이스는 이용되지 않고, 그리고
    상기 단말기는 상기 시스템에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  32. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 TCP/IP(전송 조정 프로토콜/인터넷 프로토콜) 패킷을 변환하도록 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  33. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 필터링 성능(filtering capability)을 갖도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  34. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로토콜은 단말기에서 투과하게 상기 시스템에서 선택적 통신 장치를 이용하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  35. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 변환기는 실패한 경우 세션(session) 손실 방지를 제공하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  36. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 상기 단말기에서 투과하도록 복합 무선 호프를 통하여 데이터 패킷을 지정할 성능을 구비한 무선 네트워크의 활동적인 발생 및 유지를 수행하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  37. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 시스템은 제 1 및 제 2 네트워크를 포함하고,
    상기 단말기 및 변환기는 상기 제 1 네트워크에 접속되고, 그리고
    상기 프로세서는 상기 단말기에서 상기 제 2 네트워크로서 표현되고, 상기 제 2 네트워크에서 단말기로서 표현되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  38. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 데이터 프로토콜 변환을 수행하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  39. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 상기 변환기에 국소적으로 저장된 원격 자원 위에 데이터 요구가 반응하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  40. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 상기 시스템을 통하여 파일 동기화 (synchronization)를 제공하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  41. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 또한 복수개의 단말기 사이에 데이터베이스 동기화를 제공하도록 더 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  42. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 프로세서는 상기 단말기가 복제 및 조정을 요구할 필요 없이 파일 복제 및 조정에 이메일을 제공하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  43. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 행선 주소로서 제 1 주소를 포함하는 시스템에 송신 데이터를 전송하고,
    상기 변환기는 상기 제 1 주소에 대응하는 제 2 주소를 저장하고, 그리고
    상기 변환기는 행선 주소로서 상기 제 1 주소를 상기 제 2 주소와 변경함으로서 상기 송신 데이터를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  44. 제 43항에 있어서,
    상기 변환기는 소스 주소로서 제 2 주소를 포함하는 상기 시스템으로부터 수신 데이터를 접수하고, 그리고
    상기 변환기는 소스 주소로서 상기 제 2 주소를 상기 제 1 주소와 변경함으로서 상기 수신 데이터를 변환하는 것을 특징으로 하는 변환기.
  45. 홈 장치에 접속되도록 구성된 단말기 및 시스템 사이에서 데이터 변환을 수행하기 위한 변환기의 기능을 실행하고;
    상기 변환기가 상기 단말기에서는 홈 장치로 표현되고 상기 시스템에서는 상기 단말기로 표현되도록 구성되는 컴퓨터 프로그램을 저장하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 저장 매체.
  46. 제 45항에 있어서,
    상기 단말기는 영구 주소를 갖고,
    상기 변환기는 변환기 주소를 갖고,
    상기 단말기는 소스 주소로서 영구 주소를 포함하는 시스템에 송신 데이터를 전송하고,
    상기 변환기는 소스 주소로서 영구 주소를 변환기 주소로 변경함으로서 상기 송신 데이터를 변환하도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 매체.
  47. 제 46항에 있어서, 상기 영구 주소는 IP 주소인 것을 특징으로 하는 매체.
