Claims (14)
- 제1 기판과 제2 기판 사이에 형성된 액정층을 갖는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,상기 제1 기판에 형성된 제1 전극과,상기 제2 기판에 형성되며, 상기 제1 전극에 상기 액정층을 개재하여 대향하는 제2 전극을 구비하며,상기 액정층은, 상기 제1 전극과 상기 제2 전극 사이에 전압이 인가되어 있지 않을 때에 수직 배향 상태를 취하고,상기 제1 전극과 상기 제2 전극 사이에 전압이 인가되었을 때에, 상기 액정층은 비틀림 구조를 취하면서, 상기 기판에 대하여 평행하게 배향되는 상태를 취하며,상기 액정층의 두께 d와 액정의 자연 비틀림 피치 p와의 비율을 d/p, 상기 제1 및 제2 전극 사이에 인가되는 최대 인가 실효 전압을 Vmax〔V〕, 상기 액정층의 굴절율 이방성을 Δn으로 할 때,상기 d/p는 0.0021×(Vmax)2-0.0458×(Vmax)+0.65와, 0.0021×(Vmax)2-0.0458×(Vmax)+0.50 사이의 값으로 설정되고,d·Δn/λ는 -0.00026×(Vmax)3+0.016×(Vmax)2-0.2281×(Vmax)+2.124와, -0.00026×(Vmax)3+0.016×(Vmax)2-0.2281×(Vmax)+1.7603 사이의 값으로 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 d·Δn/λ는 -0.00026×(Vmax)3+0.016×(Vmax)2-0.2281×(Vmax)+2.041과, -0.00026×(Vmax)3+0.016×(Vmax)2-0.2281×(Vmax)+1.891 사이의 값으로 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 d/p는 0.0021×(Vmax)2-0.0458×(Vmax)+0.63과, 0.0021×(Vmax)2-0.0458×(Vmax)+0.53 사이의 값으로 설정되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 액정층에는, 상기 제1 및 제2 전극에 의해 규정되는 회소 영역이 형성되어 있고,상기 회소 영역에는, 전압 인가 시에 액정 분자가 방사형상 또는 축대칭으로 배향되는 액정 도메인이 적어도 1개 형성되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 액정층에는 상기 제1 및 제2 전극에 의해 규정되는 회소 영역이 형성되어 있고,상기 회소 영역에 대응하는 제1 전극에는 개구부가 형성되어 있으며, 상기 제1 및 제2 전극 사이에 전압이 인가되었을 때에 상기 개구부의 엣지부에 형성되는 경사 전계에 의해 액정 분자의 배향 방향이 제어되는 액정 도메인을, 상기 개구부와 잔여의 중실부의 각각에 형성하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 개구부는 회소 영역마다 복수 형성되어 있고, 각 개구부와, 상기 중실부 중, 상기 개구부에 의해 둘러싸인 단위 중실부에, 각각, 상기 액정 도메인이 형성되는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 복수의 개구부는, 대략 같은 형상, 또한, 대략 같은 크기로 형성되어 있고, 상기 각 개구부에 의해, 회전 대칭성을 갖도록 배치된 단위 격자가 형성되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 각 개구부의 적어도 1개는 회전 대칭성을 갖는 형상인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 각 개구부의 적어도 1개는 대략 원형인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 각 단위 중실부의 적어도 1개는 대략 원형인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 각 단위 중실부의 적어도 1개는 각부가 대략 원호형상의 대략 구형인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 각 회소 영역에서의 각 개구부의 면적의 합계가, 상기 중실부의 면적보다 작은 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 액정층은, 유전율 이방성 Δε이 -2.5부터 -6.5까지의 값이고, 탄성 상수비 K11/K33이 0.9부터 2.0까지의 값인 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제1 전극은 복수의 회소 영역에 대응하여 각각 형성된 회소 전극이고,상기 제1 기판에는, 상기 각 회소 영역의 각각에 대응하여 형성되며, 각각의 제1 전극을 스위칭하는 능동 소자가 구비되어 있는 액정 표시 장치.
