Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep a nozzle surface covered with a cap immediately after the nozzle surface has been cleaned by bringing a roller functioning as a cleaning member as well as a cap into contact with the front side of a nozzle which has stopped jetting an ink and turning same. CONSTITUTION:After the nozzle of an ink jet head 4 has stopped jetting an ink, a roller 2 having a cleaning part 2a and a cap part 2b formed in combination on the circumference thereof is turned while in contact with the front side of the nozzle to clean the front side with the cleaning part 2a and then, when the cap part 2b is brought into contact with the nozzle, the roller 2 is stopped to maintain the position. The ink may be made to flow out while the cleaning operation and stopped immediately before the completion of the cleaning operation. It is preferred that a roller cleaning tank 3 filled with a roller cleaning liquid directly below the roller 2.
