Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A phenylacetic acid derivative expressed by formula I [R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl or allyl; M is COOH, CONH2, CONHOH or COOR3 (R3 is lower alkyl); X and Y are H or fluorine].
EXAMPLE: 6-Hydroxy-3-biphenylacetic acid.
USE: An analgesic agent, anti-inflammatory agent and antipyretic agent having a powerful effect and slight side effects.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II is hydrolyzed with an alkaline metallic hydroxide, e.g. sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, in water or an alcoholic solvent, e.g. methanol, at 15W150°C for 1W15hr under refluxing to give the compound expressed by formula I.
