Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the life characteristic and the rapid-discharge characteristic of a pasted electrode for a lead acid battery simultaneously by making the electrode by coating a supporting body with a paste prepared by kneading mixture of lead powder, sulfuric acid and water with a fibrous water-absorbing macromolecular compound which absorbs above a specified amount of water. CONSTITUTION:Mixture of lead powder, sulfuric acid and water is added with 0.01-5wt% to the above lead powder of polyacrylonitrile, which is a fibrous water-absorbing macromolecular compound which absorbs above 50ml/g of water at pH6-8. Afte that, the mixture is kneaded to make a paste, and the paste is applied to a cast grid so as to make a positive electrode. Next, a battery is constituted by combining the above positive electrode with a usual negative electrode and a usual separator. As a result, the life characteristic of the positive electrode is improved by increasing its binding performance due to the tangling of fibers contained in the active material. Besides, since dilute sulfuric acid is easily diffused into the plate due to relatively large holes formed inside the plate owing to its high water-absorbing ability, the rapid-discharge characteristic of the positive electrode can be enhanced.
