Abstract
PURPOSE:To obrain a battery which has a flat discharge characteristic and small voltage decrease at high voltage by constituting the battery by use of a negative electrode, a solid electrolyte, and a positive manganese-dioxide electrode added with an iodine compound. CONSTITUTION:A solid battery is constituted by the combination of a negative electrode 7 made of a lithium metal or its alloy, a solid electrolyte 6, and a positive pellet 5 prepared by adding an iodine compound to manganese dioxide. Current collecting Ni plates 4 and 8 and Cu plates 3 and 9, which are installed outer sides of the plates 4 and 8, are placed in a resin frame 2. As the former iodine compound, a compound containing a group IIIB metal, a group IVB metal or a transition metal, such as ZnI2, CuI2, SaI2 or PbI2, is preferred. The molar content of the idodine compound is 30-70% of the positive pellet 5. The solid electrolyte 6 is chosen from lithium iodide, lithium nitride, beta-alumina substituted by lithium, and the like. The pellet 5 is prepared, for example, by mixing manganese dioxide, zinc iodide and lead powder in a ratio by weight of 1:1:2, and pressing the mixture. Consequently, a battery having a flat discharge characteristic under high voltage can be obtained, since the diffusion of lithium ions in the positive electrode is improved.
