Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the rapid-discharge characteristic of a pasted electrode by applying a paste used as an active material to a supporting body, and cooling the body coated with the paste to below 0 deg.C before it is dried and solidified so as to make the said electrode. CONSTITUTION:After a paste prepared by kneading lead powder, sulfuric acid and water is applied to a cast grid, the grid coated with the paste is cooled to around -10 deg.C, dried, aged and solidified so as to make a positive electrode. After that, a battery is constituted by combining the above positive electrode with a usual negative electrode and a usual separator. Therefore, the volume of the plate is increased since water contained in the plate is frozen during the above cooling process, and the increased volume of the plate is maintained even after the plate is dried, aged and solidified. Consequently, the porosity of the plate can be increased, sulfuric acid necessary for the reaction can be easily diffused into the plate, and the rapid-discharge characteristic of the plate can be enhanced.
