Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain excellent image quality for a long period by providing a control means which precisely controls the quantities of light for discharging corresponding a transferred area and an untransferred area on a photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:When an original smaller than the size that a photosensitive drum can takes a copy is copied, a transferred area 18 and an untransferred area 19 are formed; a great amount of toner sticks to the untransferred area 19 when an original press plate is not used like a copy of a book, and only a small amount of toner is left in the transferred area 18. For this prupose, shutters 20 and 21 divided corresponding to the size of transfer paper are arranged on the front surface of a discharging lamp 9; when large-sized transfer paper is used, the shutters 20 and 21 are half-opened to perform discharging with a small quantity of light and when transfer paper with smaller size is used, the smaller shutter 21 is opened fullt while the other shutter 20 is half-opened during the discharging. Thus, the optical fatigue of the photosensitive drum is reduced.
