Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve copying with the best color balance by providing a means for converging the surface potential of a reference reflective plate to a prescribed one by controlling the extent of exposure, and then equalizing the extent of exposure of each separate color to the product of said extent of exposure in the convergence and a prescribed coefficient. CONSTITUTION:While white paper (transfer paper) is placed on platen glass 3, the surface potential of a photosensitive drum 1 is set for the exposure of each separated color, thus automatically obtaining adequate color balance. Then, an original to be copied is placed on the platen 3 and copying is carried out to obtain a copied image on the transfer paper 51 under the condition of the adequate color balance. In this case, since the surface potential is set for every color, the contrast of the color copied image is variable optionally and even when a certain color is exclusively emphasized or deemphasized, potential characteristics of a color-separated latent image in the color are variable. Further, even variation in the development characteristics of toner is coped with freely.
