Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize an operand shifting function which has performance similar to that completely realized by hardware, by decreasing a physical quantity, by introducing part of microprogram control into the operand shifting function of a data processor. CONSTITUTION:When a preprocessing unit passes control to a microprogram, the left number of the 2nd operand generated by the preprocessing unit is transferred to a shift counter 16 which can be used by the microprogram. Then, a branch to the microprogram is discriminated to facilitate the qualification of a shift number and the update of the 2nd operand address. For reading the 2nd operand, the same microinstruction is used regardless of the performance of shifting operation. Whether shifting operation is needed or not is judged by discriminating whether an indicator is set or not by the preprocessing unit. Thus, operands, required by the instruction, starting at a next address are read by the microprogram successively to the preprocessing unit.
