Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a leak path from being formed and improve the ratio of nondefective products by using plane glass rods as sealant and combining their ends. CONSTITUTION:A notch 51 is formed at the end of a plane glass fiber 5 and is combined with that of the other glass fiber 5'. By combining the end of the plane glass fiber 5 like this, the leak path caused by the surface tension phenomena at the glass end is prevented from being formed when the glass end is sealed. The end treatment of such a plane glass fiber 5 can easily be adjusted by heating the glass fiber 5 in such a degree as it is softened.
