Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a photoswitch of low loss and simple constitution, by disposing an optical path transducer capable of easily setting the position precision when moved, between a pair of optical fiber rows, and putting in and out this optical path transducer. CONSTITUTION:An optical path transducer 6 is made of bulk glass or other transparent substance, and has two mutually parallel planes being inclined so that the angle formed by the normal of the plane for total reflection and the optical axis may be larger than the critical angle of the material and smaller than 90 deg., and another two mutually parallel planes vertical to the optical axis. When optical fibers 1 and 2' are connected, even if the position of the optical path transducer 6 is slightly deviated, the optical path is not influenced in the position of collimating lens 3 and condensing rod lens 4' as far as the angle is not deviated, so that the light surely enters the optical fiber 2'. In addition, since the reflection on planes aa' and bb' is total reflection, loss due to reflection inside the optical path transducer 6 may be small. Thus, photoswitch of low loss and simple constitution may be obtained.
