Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise a coupling efficiency to an optical fiber and also to widen the field of view, by constituting so that a refractive index, and a refractive index difference between the center part and the outside circumferential part, of a graded lens becomes large in the former case and small in the latter case, respectively, gradually in the direction to an optical axis. CONSTITUTION:A refractive index distribution of a graded lens 1 to whose one end a single mode transmission optical fiber 2 has been made to adhere is lowered gradually toward the outside circumferential part in the diameter direction against the center, and also in the direction going along in parallel with an optical axis 3, the refractive index of one end side is always higher than that of the other end side to which a light beam 4 is made incident, and also as for a refractive index difference DELTAn between the center and the outside circumferential side in the diameter direction, that of the other end is larger than that of one end. Accordingly, the light beam 4 which has been made incident from the other end by an incident angle being theta2 becomes gradually small in its amplitude, and is projected from one end by an angle of theta1 which is smaller than theta2, therefore, photodetection is executed sufficiently by an optical fiber whose aperture number is small, as well.
