Description
[構成]
図1Aは、実施形態に係る光線方向制御デバイス100の一部構成を示す平面図である。光線方向制御デバイス100は、平面視において格子状のルーバ135と、ルーバ135が画定する空間内の配置されている複数のPDLC部131とを含む。図1Aの例においては、複数のPDLC部うち、一つのPDLC部のみが符号131で指示されている。PDLC層130は、複数のPDLC131で構成されている。ルーバ135及びPDLC層130は、基板(図1Aにおいて不図示)上に形成されている。
制御部150は、ルーバ135を直流駆動し、PDLC層130を交流駆動する。制御部150は、対向電極136に対して一定電位(基準電位)、例えば接地電位を与える。制御部150は、表示装置10の視野角のモードに応じて、異なる一定電位をルーバ素子駆動電極に与える。
図6は、光線方向制御デバイス100の他の構成例を示す。以下においては、図1Bに示す構成例との相違点を主に説明する。PDLC部駆動電極層123が、ルーバ素子駆動電極126と後側基板102との間に配置されている。PDLC部駆動電極層123とルーバ素子駆動電極126との間に、絶縁層129が配置されている。

- 光入射面に入射した光の光出射面からの出射角度範囲を変更可能な、光線方向制御デバイスであって、
基板と
それぞれが、光入射面から光出射面に向かう方向に立ち上がり、前記基板の主面に沿って延びており、印加された電圧に応じて透明状態と光吸収状態とを切り替え、前記基板の主面に沿って配列され、互いに分離されて又は互いにつながっている複数のルーバ素子と、
それぞれが、固体高分子樹脂部と前記固体高分子樹脂部内に分散した液晶滴とを含み、印加された電圧に応じて入射した光の散乱度を変化させることで出射する光の拡散度を変化させる、前記基板の前記主面に沿って前記複数のルーバ素子の間に配列されている複数の高分子分散型液晶部と、
前記高分子分散型液晶部のそれぞれを挟むように配置され、前記高分子分散型液晶部それぞれに対して駆動電圧を与える、複数の高分子分散型液晶部駆動電極ペアと、
前記複数のルーバ素子それぞれを挟むように配置され、前記複数のルーバ素子それぞれに対して駆動電圧を与える、複数のルーバ素子駆動電極ペアと、
を含む、光線方向制御デバイス。 - 請求項1に記載の光線方向制御デバイスであって、
前記複数のルーバ素子のそれぞれは、透明分散媒と有色電気泳動粒子とを含む、
光線方向制御デバイス。 - 請求項1に記載の光線方向制御デバイスであって、
複数のルーバ素子駆動電極ペアのそれぞれは、第1電極と第2電極で構成され、
前記第1電極は、それぞれ、対応するルーバ素子に対向し、前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部を避けるように、配置されている、

前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部駆動電極ペアのそれぞれは、第3電極と第4電極で構成され、
前記第3電極のそれぞれは、連続する導体層の一部であり、
前記第1電極は、前記導体層と前記対応するルーバ素子との間に配置されており、
前記第1電極と前記導体層との間に絶縁層が存在する、
光線方向制御デバイス。 - 請求項1に記載の光線方向制御デバイスであって、
複数のルーバ素子駆動電極ペアのそれぞれは、第1電極と第2電極で構成され、
前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部駆動電極ペアのそれぞれは、第3電極と第4電極で構成され、
前記第2電極及び前記第4電極は、連続する導体層の一部である、
光線方向制御デバイス。 - 請求項1に記載の光線方向制御デバイスであって、
前記複数のルーバ素子駆動電極ペアそれぞれが与える駆動電圧は、直流であり、
複数の高分子分散型液晶部駆動電極ペアそれぞれが与える駆動電圧は、交流である、
光線方向制御デバイス。 - 請求項5に記載の光線方向制御デバイスであって、
制御部をさらに含み、
前記複数のルーバ素子のそれぞれ、透明状態及び吸収状態を含む、複数の状態を有し、
前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部は、それぞれ、透明状態及び拡散状態を含む、複数の状態を有し、
前記制御部は、
前記導体層に一定の基準電位を与え、
前記第1電極に対して、前記複数のルーバ素子の前記複数の状態それぞれに対応する一定電位を与え、
前記第3電極に対して、前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部の前記複数の状態それぞれに対応して、前記基準電位又は前記基準電位に対する交流電位を与える、

複数の視野角モードにおいて前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部及び前記複数のルーバ素子を制御する、制御部をさらに含み、
前記制御部は、
広視野角モードにおいて、前記複数のルーバ素子を透明状態に維持し、前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部を光散乱状態に維持し、
狭視野角モードにおいて、前記複数のルーバ素子を光吸収状態に維持し、前記複数の高分子分散型液晶部を透明状態に維持する、

前記制御部は、
