Description
光を反射する第1電極を有する第1基板と、
光を透過する第2電極を有する第2基板と、
前記第1電極と第2電極との間に設けられ、黒表示時に略垂直配向をとる液晶層と、
前記第2基板の観察者側に設けられた偏光層と、
前記偏光層に近い側から順に配置された、第1位相差層、第2位相差層および第3位相差層を有し、
前記偏光層の吸収軸または透過軸と前記第1位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ1、前記偏光層の前記吸収軸または前記透過軸と前記第2位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ2、前記偏光層の前記吸収軸または前記透過軸と前記第3位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ3としたとき、40°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦50°、130°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦140°、 220°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦230°または、310°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦320°を満たす、反射型液晶表示装置。
60°視角のコントラスト比が1.0以上である、項目1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
70°≦θ1≦80°、0°≦θ2≦10°、80°≦θ3≦90°と等価な、160°≦θ1≦170°、90°≦θ2≦100°、170°≦θ3≦180°;250°≦θ1≦260°、180°≦θ2≦190°、260°≦θ3≦270°;または、340°≦θ1≦350°、270°≦θ2≦280°、350°≦θ3≦360°である、項目1または2に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|は、45°、135°、225°または315°である、項目1から3のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
前記第1位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは265nm以上285nm以下であり、前記第2位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは265nm以上285nm以下であり、前記第3位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは130nm以上145nm以下である、項目1から4のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
前記液晶層は、誘電異方性が負のネマチック液晶材料とカイラル剤とを含み、電圧無印加時に略垂直配向をとり、白電圧印加時にツイスト配向またはハイブリッド配向をとる、項目1から5のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
前記液晶層を構成する液晶材料の複屈折率をΔn、前記液晶層の厚さをdとしたとき、Δnとdとの積であるΔndは、160nm以上400nm以下である、項目1から6のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。

Claims (5)
- 光を反射する第1電極を有する第1基板と、
光を透過する第2電極を有する第2基板と、
前記第1電極と第2電極との間に設けられ、黒表示時に略垂直配向をとる液晶層と、
前記第2基板の観察者側に設けられた偏光層と、
前記偏光層に近い側から順に配置された、第1位相差層、第2位相差層および第3位相差層を有し、
前記偏光層の吸収軸または透過軸と前記第1位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ1、前記偏光層の前記吸収軸または前記透過軸と前記第2位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ2、前記偏光層の前記吸収軸または前記透過軸と前記第3位相差層の遅相軸とのなす角をθ3としたとき、40°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦50°、130°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦140°、 220°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦230°また
は、310°≦|θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|≦320°を満たし、
70°≦θ1≦80°、0°≦θ2≦10°、80°≦θ3≦90°と等価な、160°≦θ1≦170°、90°≦θ2≦100°、170°≦θ3≦180°;250°≦θ1≦260°、180°≦θ2≦190°、260°≦θ3≦270°;または、340°≦θ1≦350°、270°≦θ2≦280°、350°≦θ3≦360°であり、
60°視角のコントラスト比が1.0以上である、反射型液晶表示装置。 - |θ3−2×θ2+2×θ1|は、45°、135°、225°または315°であ
る、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは265nm以上285nm以下であり、前記第2位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは265nm以上285nm以下であり、前記第3位相差層が有する面内リタデーションは130nm以上145nm以下である、請求項1または2に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層は、誘電異方性が負のネマチック液晶材料とカイラル剤とを含み、電圧無印加時に略垂直配向をとり、白電圧印加時にツイスト配向またはハイブリッド配向をとる、請求項1から3のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層を構成する液晶材料の複屈折率をΔn、前記液晶層の厚さをdとしたとき、Δnとdとの積であるΔndは、160nm以上400nm以下である、請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
