Description
Claims (10)
- 液晶分子を一対の透明基板の間で略垂直に配向させたVAモード液晶セルで生じる光の位相差を補償する位相差補償素子において、
前記透明基板の基板面に対して垂直な光軸を有し、Cプレートとして作用して、前記VAモード液晶セルに斜めから入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第1の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用して、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第2の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用し、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第3の光学異方性層と、
を備え、
前記第2の光学異方性層及び第3の光学異方性層は、前記液晶分子の前記配向の方位を軸として各々の前記光軸が対称であることを特徴とする位相差補償素子。 - 前記第1の光学異方性層は、可視光の波長より小さい膜厚を有し屈折率の異なる複数種類の層によって構成された複屈折性構造体であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の位相差補償素子。
- 前記第2及び第3の光学異方性層は、可視光領域の透過光の波長よりも小さい間隔で配列された柱状体を有する複屈折性構造体であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の位相差補償素子。
- 前記第1ないし第3の光学異方性層は、無機材料からなることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の位相差補償素子。
- 前記第1ないし第3の光学異方性層の少なくとも1つは蒸着法で形成されることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の位相差補償素子。
- 液晶分子を一対の透明基板の間で略垂直に配向させたVAモード液晶セルと、このVAモード液晶セルで生じる光の位相差を補償する位相差補償素子とを備えた液晶表示装置において、前記位相差補償素子は、
前記透明基板の基板面に対して垂直な光軸を有し、Cプレートとして作用して、前記VAモード液晶セルに斜めから入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第1の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用し、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第2の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用して、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第3の光学異方性層と、
を備え、
前記第2の光学異方性層及び第3の光学異方性層は、前記液晶分子の前記配向の方位を軸として各々の前記光軸が対称であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記VAモード液晶セルの前方及び前記位相差補償素子の後方に、クロスニコルで配置された一対の偏光板を更に備える請求項6記載の液晶表示装置。
- 液晶分子を一対の透明基板の間で略垂直に配向させたVAモード液晶セルを有する液晶表示装置と、前記液晶表示装置に光を照射する光源と、前記液晶表示装置によって変調された前記光をスクリーン上に結像させる光学系と、前記VAモード液晶セルで生じる光の位相差を補償する位相差補償素子とを備えた液晶プロジェクタにおいて、前記位相差補償素子は、
前記透明基板の基板面に対して垂直な光軸を有し、Cプレートとして作用し、前記VAモード液晶セルに斜めから入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第1の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用し、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第2の光学異方性層と、
前記基板面に対して傾斜した光軸を有し、Oプレートとして作用して、前記VAモード液晶セルに垂直に入射する前記光の位相差を補償する第3の光学異方性層と、
を備え、
前記第2の光学異方性層及び第3の光学異方性層は、前記液晶分子の前記配向の方位を軸として各々の前記光軸が対称であることを特徴とする液晶プロジェクタ。 - 前記液晶表示装置は、前記光を透過させる透過型液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項8記載の液晶プロジェクタ。
- 前記液晶表示装置は、前記光を反射する反射型液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項9記載の液晶プロジェクタ。
