Description
(a) プロトン酸と
(b) プロトン酸と塩基性化合物との塩と
(c) プロトン酸でドープされた導電性高分子組成物
とから選ばれる少なくとも1種である。
で表されるスチレン/ビニルスルホン酸共重合体について考える。スチレンの分子量は104であり、ビニルスルホン酸の分子量は108であるから、上記共重合体の繰り返し単位の式量は、
104(1−x)+108x=104+4x
である。また、この繰り返し単位におけるスルホン酸基の数はxである。そこで、スルホン酸基1個当りの式量は、
(104+4x)/x
となる。従って、この共重合体1gのモル数は、
1/(104+4x)/x=x/(104+4x)
となる。よって、乾燥樹脂1g当りのミリ当量数であるイオン交換容量は、
1000x/(104+4x)
で表される。
白金を20重量%担持させた導電性カーボンブラック粉末(米国エレクトロケム社製EC−20−PTC)180mg、導電性カーボンブラック36mg、ポリフッ化ビニリデン24mg及びN−メチル−2−ピロリドン940mgを乳鉢にて混合して、ペーストとした。このペーストの一部を2.3cm角のカーボンペーパー(東レ(株)製TGP−H−90、膜厚260μm)の片面上に塗布し、80℃で60分間加熱して、乾燥させた。このようにして調製した白金担持カーボンペーパーにおいて、固形分担持量は20mgであり、そのうち、白金の担持量は3mgであった。次いで、この白金担持カーボンペーパーの白金担持表面の上にプロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質ポリマーであるナフィオン(登録商標)の5重量%アルコール系溶液(アルドリッチ社製)を塗布し、80℃で30分間、加熱し、乾燥させて、カーボンペーパー上に電極触媒層を有するカソードを得た。
白金−ルテニウム合金(白金/ルテニウム重量比2/1)を30重量%担持させた導電性カーボンブラック粉末(米国エレクトロケム社製EC/20/10−PT/RU)120mg、導電性カーボンブラック96mg、ポリフッ化ビニリデン24mg及びN−メチル−2−ピロリドン940mgを乳鉢にて解砕混合して、ペーストとした。このペーストの一部を参考例1と同じ2.3cm角のカーボンペーパーの片面上に塗布し、80℃で60分間加熱して、乾燥させた。このようにして調製した白金−ルテニウム合金担持カーボンペーパーにおいて、固形分の担持量は20mgであり、そのうち、白金−ルテニウム合金の担持量は3mgであった。次いで、この白金−ルテニウム合金担持カーボンペーパーの白金−ルテニウム合金を担持させた表面の上にプロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質ポリマーであるナフィオン(登録商標)の5重量%アルコール系溶液(アルドリッチ社製)を塗布し、80℃で30分間、加熱し、乾燥させた後、室温下で4M硫酸水溶液に30分間浸漬し、その後、80℃で60分間加熱し、乾燥させて、カーボンペーパー上に電極触媒層を有するアノードを得た。
アノードの製造に際して、ポリフェニルキノキサリンを担持させず、n型ドーピングのための6M硫酸水溶液中での電解還元を行わなかった以外は、参考例1と同様にして、試験用の単層の燃料電池セルを組み立てた。この電池の出力密度は、電圧0.4Vにおいて9mW/cm2 であった。
参考例2において、アノードの製造に際して、アノードに硫酸を担持させなかった以外は、同様にして得たアノードを用いて、参考例1と同様にして、試験用の単層の燃料電池セルを組み立てた。この電池の出力密度は、電圧0.4Vにおいて12mW/cm2 であった。
白金−ルテニウム合金触媒として、米国エレクトロケム社製EC/20/10−PT/RUに代えて、ジョンソン・マッセイ・フュエル・セルズ・ジヤパン製ハイスペック10000を用いたことと、4M硫酸処理をしなかったこと以外は、参考例2と同様にして、カーボンペーパー上に電極触媒層を有するアノードを得た。
ポリビニルスルホン酸に代えて、スチレン/ビニルスルホン酸共重合体を用いた以外は、参考例3と全く同様にして、カーボンペーパー上に電極触媒層を有するアノードを得た。上記スチレン/ビニルスルホン酸共重合体は、スチレンとビニルスルホン酸のエマルジョン重合によって得られたもので、ビニルスルホン酸モル分率0.75、イオン交換容量、7.0meq/gである。
参考例3において、カーボンペーパー上に電極触媒層を有するアノードを2Nポリビニルスルホン酸水溶液に真空含浸しなかった以外は、すべて同様にして、電極−プロトン交換膜接合体を得、これを用いて試験用の単層の燃料電池セルを組み立てた。
白金−ルテニウム合金(白金/ルテニウム重量比2/1)を30重量%担持させた導電性カーボンブラック粉末(米国エレクトロケム社製EC/20/10−PT−RU)120mg、導電性カーボンブラック96mg、p−フェノールスルホン酸ノボラック樹脂水溶液(小西化学工業(株)製、固形分濃度45.9%、平均分子量22000)261mg、ブロックポリイソシアネートAQB−102(日本ポリウレタン工業(株)製)850mg及びN−メチル−2−ピロリドン3440mgを乳鉢にて解砕混合して、ぺーストとした。このぺーストの一部を参考例1と同じ2.3cm角のカーボンペーパーの片面上に塗布し、150℃で60分間加熱して、乾燥させると共に、ブロックポリイソシアネートのブロック剤を脱離させ、イソシアネート基を再生せしめて、これによってp−フェノールスルホン酸ノボラック樹脂フェノール性水酸基と架橋反応を行わせた。
Claims (2)
- プロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質膜を挟んで、カソードとアノードとを配設し、上記カソードに酸素を供給し、上記アノードに一酸化炭素を含む水素を供給する燃料電池において、カソードが導電性多孔質基材に白金又は白金合金とプロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質ポリマーを担持させてなり、アノードが導電性多孔質基材に白金又は白金合金とプロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質ポリマーを担持させてなると共に、少なくともアノードにプロトン供給性物質を担持させてなり、プロトン供給性物質が分子中にスルホン酸基及び硫酸基から選ばれる酸性基を有するポリマー酸であって、スチレン/ビニルスルホン酸共重合体であることを特徴とする燃料電池。
- プロトン伝導性イオン交換電解質ポリマーがパーフルオロスルホン酸樹脂である請求項1に記載の燃料電池。
