Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示パネルの表示領域では、TFT基板100と対向基板200との間隔は柱状スペーサ150によって規定している。液晶表示パネル内において、画素も走査線も映像信号線も形成されていない部分においても、柱状スペーサ150によって間隔を規定する。この場合、柱状スペーサ150の台座140が必要となるが、台座140の層構造は、表示領域において間隔を規定する柱状スペーサ150が接触するTFT基板側の層構造と同一にする。これによって、製造コストの上昇をともなうことなく、液晶表示パネルの液晶層300の間隔を一定にでき、輝度むら、あるいは色むらを防止することが出来る。

Claims (9)
- TFT基板と対向基板とがシール材を介して対向し、前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に液晶が挟持された液晶表示パネルを有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記TFT基板の前記シール材の内側には、画素が形成された表示領域と、前記表示領域の外側で、走査線または映像信号線が形成された領域と前記走査線および映像信号線が形成されていない領域を有し、
前記表示領域には、有機膜で形成された平坦化膜は存在せず、
前記表示領域内には、TFT基板と対向基板の間隔を規定する柱状スペーサが形成され、
前記シール材の内側で前記表示領域の外側であって、前記走査線および前記映像信号線が存在しない部分には、前記表示領域において前記柱状スペーサが接する前記TFT基板に形成された層と同じ層構造が形成されており、前記表示領域の外側に形成された前記層構造のうち、金属で形成された層はフローティングであることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板において、前記シール材が形成されている部分には、走査線駆動回路が形成されており、前記走査線駆動回路の上方には、前記対向基板に形成された柱状スペーサが接しており、
前記走査線駆動回路の上方に形成された、柱状スペーサが接する前記TFT基板側の層は前記表示領域における前記柱状スペーサが接する部分におけるTFT基板の層と同じ層構造が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板は前記対向基板よりも大きく形成され、前記TFT基板が1枚となっている部分には端子部が形成され、前記端子部において、前記映像信号線と接続する映像信号線引き出し線、前記走査線駆動回路と接続する走査線駆動回路引き出し線が形成され、前記映像信号線引き出し線、前記走査線駆動回路引き出し線の形成されていない部分には、柱状スペーサ用台座が形成されており、前記端子部に形成された前記柱状スペーサ用台座は、前記表示領域に形成された前記柱状スペーサが接する前記TFT基板に形成された層と同じ層構造が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記シール材が形成されている部分において、前記対向基板に形成されている前記スペーサは、ブラックマトリクスおよびオーバーコート膜が島状に形成されている部分に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 液晶表示パネルが複数形成されたマザーTFT基板とマザー対向基板からなるマザー基板であって、
前記液晶表示パネル内の表示領域において、TFT基板と対向基板の間隔は柱状スペーサによって規定され、
前記液晶表示パネルが形成されていない部分における、マザー対向基板とマザーTFT基板の間隔は柱状スペーサによって規定され、
前記液晶表示パネルが存在しない部分の柱状スペーサの先端は、マザーTFT基板に形成された台座と接触し、
前記台座は、前記液晶表示パネルにおける前記柱状スペーサのTFT基板側に形成された層構造と同じであり、
前記層構造における導電膜はフロートであることを特徴とするマザー基板。 - 前記液晶表示パネルが存在しない部分の柱状スペーサの先端が接する台座は島状に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項5に記載のマザー基板。
- 第1の基板と、シール材を介して前記第1の基板と対向する第2の基板とを有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記第1の基板の前記シール材の内側には、画素が形成された表示領域と、前記表示領域の外側で、配線または駆動回路が形成された領域と前記配線および前記駆動回路が形成されていない領域とを有し、
前記表示領域には、有機膜で形成された平坦化膜は存在せず、
前記表示領域内には、第1の基板と第2の基板の間隔を規定する柱状スペーサが形成され、
前記シール材の内側で前記表示領域の外側であって、前記配線および前記駆動回路が存在しない部分に設けられた柱状スペーサには、前記表示領域において前記柱状スペーサに対応して形成された層と同じ層構造の台座が形成されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記表示領域の外側で、配線または駆動回路が形成された領域に設けられた柱状スペーサには、前記表示領域において前記柱状スペーサに対応して形成された層と同じ層構造の台座が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記シール材の内側で前記表示領域の外側であって、前記配線および前記駆動回路が存在しない部分に設けられた柱状スペーサに対応して形成された台座が有する金属で形成された層はフローティングであることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置。
