Abstract
【解決手段】溶融塩電池のセパレータ3には電解質である溶融塩が含浸されている。溶融塩は、カチオンとして、ナトリウムイオンに加えて、四級アンモニウムイオン、イミダゾリウムイオン、イミダゾリニウムイオン、ピリジニウムイオン、ピロリジニウムイオン、ピペリジニウムイオン、モルホリニウムイオン、フォスフォニウムイオン、ピペラジニウムイオン及びスルフォニウムイオンの少なくとも1種を含んでいる。これらのカチオンは正極1に悪影響を及ぼさない。またナトリウムイオンに加えてこれらのカチオンを含む溶融塩は、ナトリウム−硫黄電池が動作する280〜360℃よりも融点が大幅に低下するので、溶融塩電池はナトリウム−硫黄電池よりも低温で動作することができる。

Description
図1は、本発明の溶融塩電池の構成例を示す模式的断面図である。図1には、溶融塩電池を縦に切断した模式的断面図を示している。溶融塩電池は、上面が開口した直方体の箱状の電池容器51内に、正極1、セパレータ3及び負極2を並べて配置し、電池容器51に蓋部52を冠着して構成されている。正極1及び負極2は矩形平板状に形成されており、セパレータ3はシート状に形成されている。セパレータ3は正極1及び負極2の間に介装されている。正極1、セパレータ3及び負極2は、重ねられ、電池容器51の底面に対して縦に配置されている。

- 前記溶融塩は、カチオンとして、ナトリウムイオンに加えて、(3)式中のR5 及びR6 の一方がメチル基であり他方が炭素数1〜6のアルキル基であるイミダゾリウムイオンを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の溶融塩電池。
- 前記溶融塩は、カチオンとして、ナトリウムイオンに加えて、(6)式中のR10及びR11の一方がメチル基であり他方が炭素数1〜6のアルキル基であるピロリジニウムイオンを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の溶融塩電池。
- 前記溶融塩は、カチオンとして、ナトリウムイオンに加えて、(7)式中のR12及びR13の一方がメチル基であり他方が炭素数1〜6のアルキル基であるピペリジニウムイオンを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の溶融塩電池。
- 前記溶融塩はカリウムイオンを含まないことを特徴とする請求項1乃至5のいずれか一つに記載の溶融塩電池。
- 正極活物質をNaCrO2 とした正極と、負極活物質を錫、ナトリウム又はカーボン材料とした負極とを備えることを特徴とする請求項1乃至6のいずれか一つに記載の溶融塩電池。
