Abstract
【解決手段】Csオンゲート構造を採用し、補助容量配線(Cs線)の配線領域等を透過領域に充当して透過領域を増加させ、外部から取り入れた周囲光の反射による反射型表示を行う反射領域Aと、内部に設けられた光源からの光の透過による透過型表示を行う透過領域Bとを有する画素領域が複数マトリクス状に配列されてなり、前記各画素領域には、反射領域と透過領域とが並列に配置されており、上記透過領域の開口率が上記画素領域全体の40%以上、100%未満である。

Description
図6に示す反射率と透過率の測定値は、図4および図5において、透過領域Bとなる開口部の面積を変えて得られたものである。以上の測定では、画素領域4が銀の反射膜を有し、画素サイズは126μm×42μmである。
画素領域4と対向電極30とに挟持された液晶層3は、負の誘電異方性を有するネマティック液晶分子を主体とし、かつ二色性色素を所定の割合で含有しているゲストホスト液晶が封入されたものであり、図示せぬ配向層によって垂直配向されている。この液晶層3においては、電圧無印加状態では、ゲストホスト液晶が垂直配向し、電圧印加状態では水平配向に移行する。

Claims (10)
- 基板に行列状に配列された複数の画素領域ごとに形成された複数のトランジスタと、該複数のトランジスタのゲート電極を接続する複数のゲート線と、該複数のトランジスタの第1の電極を接続する複数の信号線と、一方の電極が前記トランジスタの第2の電極に接続する保持容量と、前記保持容量の他方の電極を接続する保持容量線と、前記トランジスタの第2の電極に接続されている前記画素領域の一方の電極と当該一方の電極と対向する他方の電極との間に配置された液晶層とを含む表示パネルとを備え、
前記保持容量線として機能する前段のゲート線から延在する延在部と、当該延在部と絶縁膜を介して対向するように前記第2の電極に接続する接続電極との間に、前記信号線に沿って当該信号線に重なるように前記保持容量が構成されており、
前記各画素領域には、反射領域と透過領域とが並列に配置されており、上記透過領域の開口率が上記画素領域全体の40%以上、100%未満である
液晶表示装置。 - 前記各画素領域には、1つの反射領域と1つの透過領域とが並列に配置され、
前記反射領域は、少なくとも前記ゲート線の配線領域または前記信号線の配線領域の真上の領域を覆うように形成されている
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記反射領域による前記表示パネルにおける光の反射率は、1%以上、30%以下であり、前記透過領域による前記表示パネルにおける光の透過率は、4%以上、10%以下である
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記表示パネルにおいては、上記光源の光の照射が500cd/m2以上、25000cd/m2以下の条件下で、表示光の光量が20cd/m2以上、2000cd/m2以下である
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記表示パネルにおいては、上記周囲光の光の照射が2000lx以上、50000lx以下の条件下で、表示光の光量が20cd/m2以上、1000cd/m2以下である
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記トランジスタは、低温多結晶シリコンを半導体層とする薄膜トランジスタである
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記反射領域は、高い反射率を有する金属膜から形成されている
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 上記画素領域は、上記透過領域の面積が上記画素領域全体の40%以上であり、上記反射領域の面積が上記画素領域全体の1%以上、60%以下である
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 対向電位の極性が1水平走査期間毎に反転される
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記信号線の時分割駆動を行うためのセレクタスイッチを有する
