Abstract

999,746. Lathe tool. WICKMAN WIMET Ltd. July 15, 1964 [Aug. 1, 1963], No. 30507/63. Heading B3B. A lathe tool comprises a shank 11, a bit support 14, and a bit assembly 15. Support 14 has an integral pin 16 angularly movable in a bore 17 of the shank, and a second pin 22 secured in the shank by a screw 23, extends into a bore 19 in the support. During cutting, the support is held in its operative position, Fig. 4, against a spring 24 which engages pin 22, but when the cutting pressure is removed, the spring pivots the support into its inoperative position, so that the bit does not mark the work. The pin 22 may be in support 14 with spring 24 in shank 1. The bit may be an insert of round, triangular or square section brazed onto the support or removably secured thereto.
