Abstract

946,112. Lathe &c. tools. HIGHER SPEED METALS Ltd. Dec. 19, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1960], No. 5679/60. Heading B3B. A cutting tool comprises a holder provided with a plane seating face for securing a cutting element or tip of circular, triangular, rectangular or other polygonal shape having parallel end faces with cutting edges at the perimeter of one or both faces. A shank 10, Figs. 1 and 2, is provided with a flat seating 12 for a tool-bit 13 which is positioned by a pin 18 passing through holes in the bit and shank. The bit is clamped by a plate 15 which wedges the bit against the pin. A chip-breaker may be arranged above the tool-bit and a pad of hard material provided under the bit if required.
