An underbody structure (Fig. 1) comprises a floor 1 having side sills 2 and a central tunnel-like stiffener 7 having a base 10 secured to the floor 1, side panels 8 extending forwardly to form engine bearers, and a curved covering plate 9. The forward part of the structure may be stiffened by a dash structure (Fig. 2) having a dash panel 22 and a dash 18 braced by side panels 21 and 20 to the underbody structure.
