Abstract

889,543. Motor vehicle bodies. DAIMLERBENZ AG. Aug. 12, 1959 [Aug. 16, 1958], No. 27596/59. Class 108(1). A motor car has a flexible plastic end panel 4, Figs. 1, 2, recessed into the body and comprising an upper formation 1 providing apertures 3 for lights 5, and a lower formation 2 carrying over-riders 9 and covering a bumper 8 fixed to the body 6. If the panel is impacted in a collision it flexes back to and contacts the bumper 8. The panel 4 may, however, itself form the bumper or carry it. The mudguards may either extend beneath the formation 2 as shown by 19, or may form a continuation of the side extended formation 2 as shown by 18. The most exposed points a-f of the panel are sequentially arranged as shown. In Fig. 3 the formations 1 and 2 are in separate parts joined to the body 6 at points 10, 11, 12, 13, and Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a different method of fixing these separate formations to the body 6. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown) the formation 2 is mounted on brackets attached to the body 6.
