983,749. Clamps. INTERNATIONAL MAC GREGOR ORGANIZATION. Oct. 24, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 38099/61. Heading E2B. [Also in Division B7] A fastening, for example for ships' hatch covers, comprises a tenon 10 mounted on the side of the hatch cover 1, and a cam 17 pivotally mounted by plates 19 on a rod 11 which extends through a hole 12 in the coaming plate 7, and is provided with a resilient abutment (consisting of a rubber block, or of a metal spring) at its lower end. A support 28 is provided beneath the hole 12, forming a recess to contain the cam 17 and its plates 19 when unfastened. The device is unfastened by rotating the cam about the pivot pin 22, by means of a detachable handle 33. The tip 32 of the handle, or the pivot pin 22, is preferably frangible, to limit the load applied to the device. In one modification, the plates 19 are replaced by a chain link (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), and in another modification (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the cam 17 is pivotally mounted directly on the rod 11, the tenon being divided to permit the rod to lie between its two parts.
