Abstract

679,288. Boxes. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. June 11, 1951 [June 9, 1950], No. 14401/50. Class 18. [Also in Group XXV] The sides 12, 13, Fig. 1, of a collapsable box are secured together by fasteners 22 comprising a shaped plate member pivotally mounted on a pin 24, Figs. 2, 3, extending between a wall 20 and a parallel reinforcing flange 18 on the edge of one side panel 14, the fastener having a first arm 28 with a right-angle piece 29 and a second arm 32 having an extension 34 arcuate about the pin 24. Openings 35, 36, in an end flange 16 of the wall 20 register when the sides are in position with similar openings 37, 38 in the adjacent side 15. The part 29 of the fastener has a flat inside face 30 closely spaced from the pivot part and adapted to grip the abutting wall parts 15, 16 to prevent relative movement towards and away from the pin 24. The arcuate portion 34 of the second arm has. a wedging engagement with the sides of the openings 36, 38 to prevent relative movement between the parts in their plane. A swinging catch 40 has a shoulder 43 adapted to abut an operating arm 25 of the fastener to secure it in the fastening: position (Fig. 3). An extension 44 engages an outwardly extending thumb piece 26 in the securing position. The fastener is held in the releasing position by the catch 40 engaging under a shoulder 45. The shoulder 45 may be replaced by a slot. The base 11 of the box is provided with feet 47, Fig. 1, vertically beneath the side elements for the reception of fork arms of a fork truck.
