[Also in Division F2] A through-feeding crusher for coal &c. comprises a crusher roll 3 mounted on a hinged arm 1 which is yieldably deflectable against the resistance of one or more double-acting damping cylinders 7 which each contain a piston 9 which divides the cylinder into two chambers filled with hydraulic fluid and communicating exclusively with one another through one or more connections containing a flowconstricting section. The piston 9 is traversed by one or more ducts 13, Fig. 3, to damp the movement of the arm 1 when it is forced upwards. Fluid is permitted to return through a larger cross-section so that the arm 1 can return very quickly. Alternatively, the ducts 13 may have a non-variable small cross-section, a by-pass pipe 14 being provided with a non- return valve 15 which preferably has an adjustable flow section.
