[Class 108 (iii)] In a hydraulic shock absorber in which increased resistance is secured at the end of the travel by trapping liquid, a piston secured to piston rod 12 works in a cylinder 10, the piston rod passing through a closure 45 with packing members 47, 49. When the piston moves to the left, liquid passes through passages 15, 14 in the piston rod and through a spring- controlled valve 26, until the lateral passage 15 enters the closure 45 when liquid can only reach passage 15 through the clearance allowed between the closure and the piston rod.
