A telescopic stay for a radiogram cocktail cabinet or the like, utilizing a hydraulic fluid as the working medium, comprises a cylinder and piston 13, each produced as a moulding from a thermo-plastic synthetic resin composition, the piston or cylinder having a bleed slot or opening for controlling the flow of hydraulic fluid in the cylinder past the piston to provide the required damping action in one direction and a non-return valve 19 in the piston which when lifted from its seating under pressure of the hydraulic fluid will permit substantially unrestricted flow of hydraulic fluid in the opposite direction, a piston rod 13 projecting through a boring in a plug or cap 2 closing the end of the cylinder, a supporting bracket 6 for attachment to a fixed part and carrying the cylinder in a manner which will allow of pivotal movement and a second bracket or its equivalent 27 pivotally attached to the free end of the piston rod and adapted for attachment to a lid or other movable part 29.
