Abstract

1292369 Shock absorbers K JORGENSEN and N B NIELSEN 5 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 27275/70 Heading F2S The piston-rod 8 of an hydraulic (or hydropneumatic) shock absorber is hollow and contains a control rod 13, one end of which carries the end connection 11, 2 of the shock absorber, and the other end of which controls flow of liquid across the piston 6. The piston 6 has bleed orifices 23, 24 and a spring-biased valve member with associated duct 25, 26 either of which damping paths may be what is controlled by the rod 13. As shown, the rod 13 controls the valve member 25. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the rod controls bleed orifices (31). There is essentially a main spring 1 between the projecting end 9 of the piston-rod and the cylinder 5, and another spring 12 between the projecting end 9 and the end connection 11, 2. The piston and cylinder may be formed with coacting recesses and projections 19, 20, 21, 22 to provide hydraulic end stops.
