Abstract

A fuel additive comprises a mixture of (1) a hydroxy 3-(N-alkylamino or N-alkinylamino) propyl carbamate <FORM:0979590/C4-C5/1> R being C8-32 acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon and R1, R2. R3 and R4 are the same or different, and are hydrogen, or C1-4 alkyl, or both carbamates and (2) a substituted propylene urea <FORM:0979590/C4-C5/2> wherein R is a C8-32 acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group; the weight ratio of urea to carbamate being 1: 2 to 2: 1. R can be oleyl or derived from coconut fatty acid. The additive can be obtained as a mixture by reacting the appropriate diamine with ethylene or propylene carbonate. Tetra alkyl lead may also be present.
