Abstract
A hydrocarbon fuel composition comprises a hydrocarbon and 5 to 50 p.p.m. of at least one compound of the formula <FORM:1112754/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 is a C7- 21 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R2 is hydrogen or a C8- 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R3 is a C8- 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical when R2 is hydrogen, or a radical -(CwH2wO)yH when R2 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, w is 2 or 3, x is 2-4 and y and z are integers, the sum of which ranges from 1-5. The above compounds may be added to the fuel together with other additives and solvents. In examples the ethoxylated and propoxylated derivatives of N-(3-oleyl-aminopropyl)oleamide are employed as the additive. The fuel may be gasoline.ALSO:Compounds of the formula <FORM:1112754/C2/1> wherein R1 is a C7- 21 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R2 is hydrogen or a C8- 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R3 is a C8- 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical when R2 is hydrogen, or a radical -(CwH2wO)yH when R2 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, w is 2 or 3, x is 2-4 and y and z are integers, the sum of which ranges from 1 to 5, may be obtained by reacting an amino amide of the formula <FORM:1112754/C2/2> with ethylene or propylene oxide. The reaction is suitably effected at normal or elevated temperatures of from 0-150 DEG C. at a pressure of 0-50 p.s.i.g. and preferably in an inert atmosphere. In specific examples, the ethoxylated and propoxylated derivatives of N-(3-oleyl-aminopropyl) oleamide are prepared.
