In a gravity davit in which the arms 10, from headsheaves 11 on which the lifeboat 12 is suspended by falls 13, are guided for rectilinear movement between stowed (Fig. 1) and boat-lowering (Fig. 2) positions upon fixed tracks 15 disposed athwartships and inclined downwardly in an outboard direction, the arms being rigidly interconnected (by a bridge structure 14) to afford a unitary assembly, the winch for operating the boat falls is mounted upon said assembly so as to partake of the movement thereof upon the tracks and is so disposed on the assembly that when the latter is in the boat lowering position (Fig. 2) the winch brake release lever 33 can be operated from the suspended boat by a flexible line 36. Lowering of the boat 12 on its falls 13, after releasing gripe wires 30 (Fig. 1) by operating a lever 31 on the bridge structure 14, is effected at a predetermined speed by a centrifugal brake 32 under the control of the lever 33 on said winch. The line 36 operates the release lever 33 via an auxiliary lever 34, and is coiled on a free-running spool 37 under boat seat 38. Specification 941,345 is referred to.
