Abstract

957,909. Pipe couplings. WALKER CROSWELLER & CO. Ltd. Feb. 11, 1963 [Nov. 11, 1961], No. 40432/61. Heading F2G. A coupling for connecting pipes 5, 6 into two longitudinal passages 3, 4 in the threaded stem 2 of a mixing tap comprises a cup shaped nut 1 with an apertured floor 7 accommodating two deformable rings 9, 10 or a deformable washer with two holes (Fig. 3, not shown) through which the pipes 5, 6 are inserted into the holes 3, 4 and which are deformed into gripping abutment around the pipes when compressed between the nut 1 and the end of the stem 2. Alternatively the rings 9, 10 (or washer) may be of nylon and may be olive shaped externally. A metal disc 8 may be located between the rings (or washer) and the nut, but may be omitted if a nylon washer is used. The pipe-receiving ends of the passages 3, 4 and the holes in the disc at the ends adjacent the rings (or washer, if present) may be flared.
