Abstract
957,397. Cartridge conveying hoists. BOFORS A.B. Dec. 24, 1962 [Dec. 23, 1961], No. 48583/62. Heading F3C. A device for conveying cartridges to a gun from ammunition stores located below the gun comprises a tube 3 guiding the cartridge and a trolley 18 running in guides 15, 16 adjacent the tube 3, said trolley carrying a spring loaded arm 19 passing into the tube 3 to support the cartridge base. The cartridges are held in a magazine formed by arms 8, 9 and base 10 (Fig. 1) and are guided into the cut-away base of the tube 3 by a cruciform shaped roller 7 which also serves to prevent the cartridge from tipping when the trolley is moved. A motor 25 acts through links 27, 28, 29 to turn a shaft 30 on which is mounted a swinging forked arm 24. This moves arms 21, 22, 23 to raise and lower the trolley (Figs. 1, 3) to the top and bottom of the tube 3. The tube is vertical at the top and at an angle to the vertical at its base to facilitate handling of the cartridges. Side walls 11, 12 of the device serve to contain the hoisting levers. The cartridge is removed from the top of the tube by a loading tray or pendulum 5. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the swinging arm 24 is straight and driven by an hydraulic cylinder.
