Loading-appliances.-Hoists of the kind in which the charges are moved step-by-step by fingers on asynchronously reciprocating rods have means for moving the rods laterally to bring the fingers alternately into and out of the path of the charges. In the double-acting hoist shown, the fingers B are carried by rods A', A<2> which are continuous in straight parts of the hoist and hinged together to form links in curved parts of the hoist. The rods are reciprocated in opposite directions by linkage driven from the motordriven shaft L as shown. The rods carry rollers C which move in parallel cam tracks H joined at the ends by inclined tracks formed by switches K. The switches are moved through rods 0 by a cam M in order to time the passage of the rods from one cam track H to the other.
