Abstract
952,981. Latch fastenings; suspended ceilings. H. M. HAY. July 13, 1960 [May 14, 1959], No. 16559/59. Headings E1V and E2A. A hook device for the suspension of a ceiling panel 3, comprises a bracket 6, to be secured to the panel, and a latch member 5 carried by the bracket so as to have two positions of rest in relation to the bracket in the first of which positions the latch member projects ready for engagement with a ceiling lath 2 whilst in the second it is retracted to clear the lath, the latch member being movable from the first to second position successively by abutment of the latch member against the lath 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the latch plate 5 slides against spring 9, with a lug 6a acting as a support, when the panel 3 is lifted. On lowering the panel again the latch plate is caused to rotate by abutment with the top of the lath until spring 9 retains the latch plate in a vertical position to enable panel 3 to be freed. In an alternative form (Fig. 3) a latch plate 10 has two noses 10a 10b the latter nose causing the latch plate to be retracted when the panel is lifted. The latch plate is held in its retracted position by a lug 13 which is brought into contact with an edge of the bracket 15 by means of a spring 11, the spring causing the latch plate 10 to pivot about its base when the lug 13 has slid clear of the bracket 15. In both embodiments the latch plate is returned to its first position manually before the panel is again supported.
