Abstract
856,716. Push-pull catches; hooks. BEADLE, D. M. July 31, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958; Sept. 26, 1958], Nos. 25552/58 and 30851/58. Classes 44 and 89(2). A hook-device, e.g. for suspending a ceiling- panel 1, Fig. 1, from a joist 2 or other support, comprises a base 3 fixed to the panel and formed with a bifurcated-end 5 in which hook-member 7 is pivoted and urged by gravity to the releaseposition shown in broken-lines. Member 7 is cocked in the position shown in full-lines on the left of Fig. 1, by one or more springs 14 anchored to a pin 15 and carrying a pin 13 located in a notch 12. The panel and hook-device are moved past the joist, which causes the hook-member to pivot clockwise and extend springs 14. Once past the joist, the springs restore the hookmember, which engages the joist as the panel is lowered to the position shown on the right of Fig. 1, the pin 13 being ejected from the notch. The panel may be removed by raising it until the hook-member hangs vertically and can pass the joist as the panel is lowered. A check-spring 16 acts against springs 14. In a modification, hookmember 25, Fig. 4, is pivoted at 24 to base 20 and is cocked by spring 29 engaging a baseprojection 27. When the member engages the support, it pivots anticlockwise to eject the spring from projection 27 and engages a shoulder 26.
