Abstract

952,536. Loose-leaf binders. BENSONS TOOL WORKS Ltd. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 13, 1962], No. 5397/62. Heading B6E. A loose-leaf binder comprising a series of splitrings 10 mounted on strip-like members 11 contained in a spring housing 12 is provided with an operating lever 14 pivoted to the housing and movable between an inoperative position in which the rings are open and an operative position in which the rings are closed, the arrangement being such that the abutting edges 20 of the members 11 always remain on the same side of the plane containing the outer edges of the members 11 irrespective of whether the operating lever is in its operative or inoperative position. That is to say, the abutting edges 20 do not pass over the dead-centre position in operation of the binder. The operating lever comprises a substantially-shaped member, the angle between the two limbs being greater than 90 degrees (e.g. 93 degrees), having integral side pins 16. A curved member 17 secured to the underside of the housing and having a rectangular box-like portion 18 projecting through an aperture in the housing, has lugs 19 pressed out of the portion 18 to receive the pins 16 whereby the operating lever is pivotally mounted.
